Michael - You hit on something that a lot of people gloss by! Everything I watch a comedy film, especially silly and/or slapstick comedies, I always watch the "extras" in the background! More often than not you can see them doing everything possible to hold in their laughter! Great stuff! As great and funny as "Stir Crazy" is, it would've been do much better if the whole film was as hysterical as the first half hour or so!

This is pure comic genius. Sure, the punch was fake (with no bloody nose!), but the way Pryor and Wilder played off each other in a way that brought the tension in the room to a breaking point (or diffused it?) was just hilarious. They don't make comedy like this anymore. Thanks for posting. Rest in peace, Richard and Gene.

an interesting aspect is that Wilder said that he didn't actually like working with Pryor that much. I think it had to do w/Pryor being late to set a lot, doing a lot of drugs. They had great chemistry on film--but they weren't really tight off camera.

This is a time when we all knew it's just a movie and had fun with deference in its simplicity. no one was offended, no activists lining up, no messaging was embedded, just slapstick and raw comedy, in other words.... These were the Good Ole' Day's.... we have forgot what comedy is, or what true talent looks like....

@Hanover Fiste I also lived through those times. The way I see it, the return of racial tensions was more about someone getting elected President when no one thought that would be possible for another decade, and a lot of white conservatives seeing crowds of thousands of crying joyus black people, and reacting as if something had been taken away from them. Its not hard to notice that the whole "I want my country back" mantra was being put out by right wingers after 2008. They saw somebody who wasn't one of them getting power over them, and saw themselves being replaced.

We don't wish it because you might have just messed it up. they didn't need you THEY are fine just the way they were .I'm just saying. Try to be happy with your life and life you had and don't look back think about the good things that happened in your life, some people that end up writing for comedians and people like that end up having bad lives and tragic endings and like the writer for a good times Richard Pryor his life life had tragedies in it too

Seriously 😒 I think the Blackman in the blue shirt 👕 does an amazing acting job. Going from rage 😤 to pure fear after he hits the big man was very well played. I am sure there are plenty of positive comments about Pryor and Wilder but sometimes it’s the other side actors that really do a job well done making a movie like this such a classic.
