As a kid who grew up in the 80’s, this was one of the movies that came on ‘all the time’ on HBO when we first got cable. There were a handful of movies that I watched countless times over and over. This was one of them, and just seeing the clips were so nostalgic. Grease 2, Return of the Jedi, and another one called Super Fuzz were the ones I couldn’t get enough of, and had to watch over and over…much to the chagrin of my mom!
@mjwbulich Жыл бұрын

I remember Superfuzz so well, but it is almost impossible to find. I would probably also add Gary Coleman and Jimmy the Kid (where he is kidnapped), The Incredible Shrinking Woman, and Caddyshack as movies that looped on HBO all the time. Great memories.

Thank you for posting this video! This was one of my favorite movies growing up. HBO or Showtime would sometimes show this on a Saturday afternoon figuring that young kids were the audience. This movie became very hard to find at the video store by late 80s. Years ago, when IMDb first started, I would ask questions about the filming locations when IMDb actually had a comments section on each and every movie's page. The only clarification I ever got was that the Malibu mini golf location had burned down and general information on the Bonaventure Hotel. Thank you for the wealth of information you provided in the video.

During COVID your videos inspired me to find filming locations of some of my favorite movies. Midnight Madness was the first video I did like 6 months ago. I'm so so SO happy you found the actual 'piano museum' exteriors!! That one was alluding me! And the reason why the inside of Johnies doesn't line up is because (supposedly) the interiors were filmed at the other Johnies Broiler location. I'm sure you know the history of that location and how it was mostly demolished like 10 years ago. So who knows. Anyways my dream would be to do a colab with you someday! FAGABEFE!!
@80sLife Жыл бұрын
Hey! That is so awesome that I inspired you to make some videos! Thank you so much. Let's definitely do a collab together in the near future. I'm also glad that I found the museum, I actually found it at the last minute as I was finishing editing the video and had to go back and put it in. Also, yesterday, I confirmed that Pinball City was, in fact, at the Malibu castle. I don't know if I agree with the interiors being filmed at Johnies in Downey. It doesn't match up. Even though half was bulldozed, it was rebuilt with the same blueprints. Maybe we can solve that mystery. Ok, well, thank you again, and I look forward to seeing what videos you do.

@@80sLife aahhh this is why I said supposedly, another one I was unsure of, but saw many postings saying that. I have never been to that location. There’s so much misinformation floating around. The other lead I have for the interiors is Arts Deli in Studio City. It does LOOK right. Same type of booths and wood paneling, even a wood paneled cashier stand where “little Harold” could have been purchased? Check it out and let me know what you think!

This is great! I do believe you are the only person on youtube to document the locations for this movie. I've been wanting to do it for years, and about two years ago I ended up going to Big Bear, and was going to try to take a day to go to LA and try to find all these locations, but man I would've never done even half the awesome job you did! I had alot of it figured out using google earth, but wow there was alot more to it! And I've always thought it was hilarious how they do that site swap thing with filming scenes in two or three different locations and stitching them together to make one scene, as if it is one single location lol. When I did the Goonies locations, I was like, ok let's do this right and for the final scene we drove all the way to Jenner CA to Goat Rock Beach, and it was AWESOME! I haven't looked to see if youve done the goonies yet, but if you ever get the chance to go to goat rock beach, man it is amazing.

I was told the inside of Johnny’s was film at a restaurant in Santa Fe Springs that has since been torn down. I thought Miniature Gold World was also filmed at Golf N Stuff in Ventura. The castle there looks the same except for some modifications for the movie. When the draw bridge goes up in the movie you can see the actual hole.

Kurt I love your channel and your filming locations. One of my all time favorite TV shows was The Rockford Files. I know, I know, it was from the 70's, not the 80's. But it was the late 70's. I'm from the Midwest, but every time I watch an episode, I fall into a rabbit hole of google maps trying to figure out if any of those filming locations still exist. Rockford Files is a gold mine of film locations. Jim Rockford driving around LA in his gold Firebird working on cases. The trailer he lived in was on a parking lot in Malibu on the Pacific Ocean. I've googled it, it's still there. The parking lot, not the trailer... lol... I love your CHIPS videos. Maybe you can do the same for Rockford.

So I just went through the photos of Ventura golf n stuff on google and I’m more convinced it’s miniature golf world and possibly pinball city. I see 3 hole that look very similar to what you see in the movie although painted differently. Now the golf n stuff arcade looks nothing like pinball city in the movie but pinball city has slanted wood paneling and I found a photo of one wall inside the golf n stuff arcade that has slanted wood paneling but it has been painted black.
