I was there, remember it well, they were absolutely on fire ,like most of their gigs , I’m 59 yrs old now and have seen countless bands and non have ever come close to the raw energy the oils produce.

The Oils were at their peak in the early 1980’s, but after Giffo left they went too soft.

I was lucky enough to see the Oils during the 1970s when they were still doing "pub" gigs when they came to Melbourne. I saw them at a pub called ( His/Her?) Majesty's, (aka Macy's), where only a hundred or so could (legally) be allowed in. Loud, raw & Garrett was frenetic on stage. An era of Oz Rock never to be repeated, with them & the likes of AC/DC, Skyhooks, The Angels, Kevin Borich Express all playing the local pub scene.

How many high vis outfits, sniffer dogs and insurance companies would it take to put on that show in 2021? And as far as the band goes, the most underrated rock band in the world!

To be fair it was wild in those days. I remember seeing empty long necks simply hurled into the crowd at an oils concert at the bowl. And the fights, oh boy

Really loose..in the days..we were just hangn loose...That w/end we were camping, heard it was on..left the tinnies(outboard motor vessle)at the marina, then bolted to Wanda...today it looks like a Mungrels Woodstock..it was raw alright...when he hit the stage in 'scunno's with a G&S under his arm..joint when nuts....thankyou memory..x

In 2023, in a regional town pub club high profile venue, there are a stupid number of security - like 15, for 100 people, who were actually not even dancing. So for a space we had only 2 max. for this, 180 security for every 3,000. Ridiculous. Just perhaps more serious drugs, regrettably now.

In 1982 I got to do a short NZ tour with the Oils working for the sound contractor. We finished at NZeds premium music club, "Mainstreet" in Auckland. The legal club capacity was 550. BUT 800 people had squeezed in and water drops were literally on the walls and the temp was over 90 degreesF from all the bodies. They were just SHIT HOT!! No real room to dance because it was so packed. Sound was awesome. Low 30 inch high stage. Special lighting effect on drums, so that hits shot up water colored by overhead lights. I had previously been to 3 Led Zeppelin concerts in the states. This was every bit as good. Some drunk jumped on stage after band left stage, and grabbed Garret's custom made from a single piece of pipe 6' 6" mike stand, and was trying sing. The band's personal road crew grabbed him, took him downstairs, and literally scared the chit out of him! Won't say how, but he didn't die, though thought he was about to. AUSSIE Hard core crew for Hard core music. The Aussie roadies have a credo they told me. "If it burns, smoke it, if it's liquid, drink it, if it moves, f**k it!" Great band but psycho road crew.

Glad in a way this song didn't become a big hit single, so it doesn't get overplayed. Jim Moginie's otherworldly alien guitar work is ahead of its time, including a solo that is exceptionally worthy in a sea of boring standards. Hard to believe the EP "Bird Noises" was recorded in July 1980 when I was still trying to get laid, about the same time ACDC Back In Black came out.

Crowd is so into this! It's unreal! I first saw the Oils in 83 and they were so good. Saw them this year (2022) and they were still just as good. So much energy. Favourite Aussie band by far!

Saw them at Sylvania hotel 79 or 80 cant remember , the place was only quarter full but the crowd was right up the front , Jim Moginie was wearing his beanie and the blue stage lights was reflecting off Peters sweaty head and Martin Rotsey was still playing his black strat with the humbucker , I knew straight away , beam me back Scotty

What a great time to be 18 years old ! Was a wild time being a teenager in the 70's - 80's compared to now. Wish I had that Larry B twinny in my collection $$$$ I wonder what ever happened to that. Loved the Oil's but hated how secretive they were when they played gig's.
