This, Cruel Intentions, Sugar and Spice, Jawbreaker, Election... it was kind of a golden age of dark teen movies and we didn't even know it.
@whiplashfilms7 жыл бұрын
Fogelogel I think Election and Cruel Intentions got and still gets a lot of love. I don't really recall liking Jawbreaker that much. Sugar and Spice was alright far as I remember it; isnt that the one where the girls get the idea from Point Break to rob the bank?

That's the one. I forgot Teaching Ms. Tingle! I guess I can see why Brad would have been sick of the genre at the time.

I assumed these were all cheap knock-offs of each other. Maybe they were actually good though.

I never liked Cruel Intentions as much as everyone else, but i did watch it more than just a few times. And I remember not liking Jawbreaker very much when I originally saw it, but I watched it again a couple years ago and I ended up kind of liking it a lot. LOL I really enjoyed Sugar and Spice a lot. Now that I think about it, there were a lot of teen comedies. A lot of bad stuff, but also a lot of hidden gems. I never heard of "All I Wanna Do" until a few weeks ago, and I'm really surprised it's not one of those films that has a cult following.

Man, I love this film! I saw it when I was young and (let's admit it) not averse to seeing beautiful Hollywood starlets dressing up on-screen. I wasn't expecting to love it as much as I did. Denise Richards' duet with "Jesus"... that has to be one of the funniest things I've ever seen on film. And Kirstie Allie just kills it - she is freakin' hilarious from the first moment she's onscreen until the last. It has a young pre-Spiderman Kirsten Dunst, a West Wing-era Allison Janney (playing a very, very different character, and having a blast), and a bunch of other talent. The writing in this movie is so damn good. EDIT: I always kinda thought Richards' character might have killed the boyfriend too. They made a point of having her say that her mom gave her the sniper rifle for her boyfriend, kinda pointing at the mother, but it always seemed like the daughter was the one with the bigger motive.

I gotta say I was so excited to see a midnight Screening of this. I was big into the state back then too, but I didn't know Michael Showalter was involved. But I remember this movie and I loved it!!! it's dark satire and so over the top. Kirstie Allie, Ellen Burstyn, Amy Adams, Britney Murphy, ugh such a slice of Nostalgia. Haven't seen it probably since like 2000, but remember it clear! gotta go rent it now. Where is it on Netflix! Also Happy Texas is amazing as well

I love the irony of Stayin' Alive playing on the radio while you two are talking about a movie in which people die in graphic fashion. XD It's like the beginning of Belko Experiment, with "I Will Survive" playing, which, when I watched it, I was trying so hard not to laugh because of you and Brian's review of it.

Totally random and you probably already know but Vice-Versa was a remake of an old British movie of the same title written by Peter Ustinov. It's funny and the scene you describe is in that movie and just as strange as the new film. Give it a watch, if only to see the bit with the Temple of the Laughing Hyena. Glad to hear you enjoyed Drop Dead Gorgeous. I'll have to re-watch it now because during the entire review I was thinking of the bank heist movie 'Sugar and Spice.' Come to think of it, preppy girls doing criminal stuff was kind of a thing back then.
