Fifth Element is one of those movies I can pop in at any time and watch it like it's the very first time. One of the few films where it's cliches work to its advantage. Someday when I have a girlfriend who's willing, we're going to cosplay as Korben and Leeloo.

Brad, I am surprised that you did not know that the part of Ruby Rhod was written for Prince. Prince said that he read the part and saw the buffoonery of the character and was like "I can't do this".

Chris Tucker's character wasn't just based off of Prince, he was originally supposed to be played by him. The reason he didn't agree to it was because when Jean Paul Gaultier tried to show him some sketches of his costume, his accent was so thick that Prince at one point misheard something he said as "Fuck you".

From what he said during one of his many live game streams I got the feeling that since he started being funded by Patreon he became obsessed with perfection to the point of being unable to make any progress. He's always been a bit of a perfectionist, but once he got the weight of the responsibility of making something directly for money it got too much and he couldn't cope.

This is a surprising entry. I also saw The Fifth Element at a screening. I noticed details on the theater screen that I had never noticed before, and I had forgotten the poetic intercutting of scenes and the symmetry that the film uses.

This movie was released the year I was born, it was and still is one of my favorite science fiction films, everything about it was just captivating to my imagination. Also, for the longest time, I had no idea Zorg was Gary Oldman. Finding that out made me love him and this movie even more.

I've literally watched this movie over 10 times in the past month and a half, cuz every time I'm just looking through channels on my tv to find something for background noise, some channel is showing it, sometimes the same channel has it twice the same day, either in english or dubbed. Oddly enough, I can just leave it on and not be tired of anything about it.

I despised Chris Tucker back in '97, but I guess I've gotten used to him over the years. Nowdays I'm more annoyed by the total incompetence by the future police force. Favorite scene was the ultra-evil planet thing having a phonecall with Gary Oldman.

Before its release it was being hyped up as groundbreaking science fiction that would rival Star Wars and Blade Runner. That meant the film was a huge disappointment when it came out. However, I've grown to appreciate it over the years, even though I can see why it won't be to everyone's taste. I don't think it's got any depth to it despite the subject matter, but there's much to enjoy. Really this film is a live-action cartoon.

I actually like Armageddon. I mean, it's really stupid (it helps if you watch it as a semi-parody), but I love the chemistry between the actors. The Fifth Element is definitely the better movie though. My personal #1 "Bruce Willis (tries to) save(s) the world"-movie of the 90s is Twelve Monkeys.
