I don't think Adam Sandler uses the Words "Gay" and "Retarded" as much
True Story. I saw this movie in Utah during Sundance, and Eli Roth was there giving a big speech about how this movie was "popping his Sundance cherry," and at that moment I laughed on the outside, but inside I thought, "I wanna punch this guy." The movie made me laugh at how much stupid, contradicting bullshit filled every minute of the film, and all I wanted to do right when this was over was get the fuck out of there before the Q&A. So it was 1AM and my cab was late, and I kept thinking how much of a waste of time and money the night was... UNTIL I saw Norman "Fucking" Reedus in the parking lot. I did not approach him, because he was clearly tired and trying to get to his car, but for a moment we made eye contact, and that made the whole night worth this fucking movie's pain.
@Horatio7879 жыл бұрын
You know what the weird thing is? If this movie was the first 20 minutes of a movie, then the rest of it was about the father getting through the aftermath of this experience and working out his problems with his wife. And then he finds the girls and murders them, then he has to deal with the aftermath of that and talk it out with his wife while he's in prison. It could be a really interesting analysis of thriller and revenge movies.

I remember Eli Roth saying this movie is super feminist, because the girls are the perpetrators and that they punish men who are cheaters or something or whatever. Honestly Eli Roth has no idea what the word feminist means. I mean I'm not offended by the idea that the girls being tormentors, I'm offended that its just yet another movie where women use their sexuality to get what they want and basically it seems to boil down to them being in the right because a guy cheated. Sure a guy cheating is very bad, he is an asshole, but making him suffer they way they made him suffer, makes no sense. And really I feel like the movie is making the case that "bitches be crazy" or whatever, than being a "feminist" horror film. Also their actions make even less sense since they keep destroying the wife's possessions. I mean why destroy the wife's livelihood she didn't cheat on her husband with them. Sorry but the more I think about the intentions of these girls it makes so little sense....

First Off: Thinking back to the Back to the Future Trilogy, I felt severely let down when I lived to see 2015...I honestly thought we were gonna have Awesome Hoverbroads/Hover cars, Jaws 19 (though after Jaws Revenge, I didn't care much) and that awesome jacket and shoes that adjust the size to the wearer's size. Cubs winning? If it happens, it happens...So yeah, totally upsetting but hey...Maybe Marty & Doc sent us in an alternate 2015! 0_0 However this film? I'm just mad that Keanu actually took this role, and didn't have enough Star Power to walk off the set and told Eli Roth to go fuck himself. I know that 47 Ronin was Terrible, mostly with Historical accuracy and like Pan, Whitewash the role (Which I think is sorta debatable, because Keanu looks like he's Asian-ish? bur more Predominantly white? Feel free to correct me on this topic) but he totally rose up a few notches in John Wick, and proved his badassery. This? Seriously is he that Desperate for a paycheck? Then maybe he shouldn't have donated his money from The Matrix to the Special Effects crew, Sorry for being a Dick, but he shouldn't take roles like this. I haven't seen the original film, but from what you're telling me, it's God-awfully Annoying and not worth the price of admissions...Seriously...Keanu has been in better movies...Tell me Brad, Am I just gonna have to accept the fact Great Actors will take a Horrible role, in a Fucking ridiculous plot, despite them starring in Better movies? If Yes I'll just cry in corner quietly :'(

Yeah, about the defence that Roth's characters are supposed to be douchey... how is that supposed to be a good thing? Why should we give a fuck about anyting going on in the movie if we can't stand the main characters? And why the FUCK would you intentionally make your characters despicable? Seriously, what is the purpose there? What is that supposed to achieve?
@AdamaGeist9 жыл бұрын
+SsnakeBite The purpose is so that you are engaged by them getting closer to death. It's the whole 'rooting for the bad guy' thing that started in a way with Nightmare on Elm Street. People wanted to see how Freddy killed people, so they made the characters less likable so people wouldn't feel guilty wanting to see them die. You can see that a lot in the Final Destination movies. Honestly tho? that's not even a defense. it's openly admitting your criticism is valid. 'Well, they're supposed to be unlikable!" Is no defense at all, it's admitting your criticism is entirely accurate.
@SsnakeBite9 жыл бұрын
AdamaGeist The problem is I don't WANT to root for the bad guy, and I don't think most horror fans do, because the bad guy is still the bigger evil and if people start rooting for him, it just means he's either not threatening any more or you fucked up writing the heroes, usually both. If the victims are assholes and the villain is still, well, a killer, you have no-one to root for and you're just waiting for the movie to end in the vein hope that something interesting will eventually happen. I watch horror movies because I want to be horrified and because I want to see characters I can relate to overcome great dangers. A great example of that would Dr Gordon and Adam from Saw. They're in a situation they don't deserve, they're likeable and so you really want them to survive. And it's not like they're squeaky-clean either. You CAN write flawed characters without making them jackasses. And Hell, wanna make a movie where you root for the villain? Fine, but at least make the villain interesting or else it's just not gonna work. And the problem with Eli Roth is that even his villains are not interesting and they're annoying as fuck. It's always "I love torturing people. That is all".
@AdamaGeist9 жыл бұрын
SsnakeBite It's an entirely terrible setup, that's without any doubt. I did think of the only way to really make it work tho. Make it damn obvious from the beginning that the 'victims' are irredeemably evil from the start, and the 'monster' is something after them because of what they've done. Thus making it something after revenge, and you WANT to see it kill them. Basically like The Crow, only seen from T-Bird's perspective.
