I love that Madea is barely mentioned in this over-an-hour long review of a Madea movie.

I saw this movie before and OMG that corn comment, wow - speaking as someone whose mother was a Farmer's Daughter and I myself, who was raised in a rural small town farming community, that made me slap my forehead. Because seriously, if any farmer in their right mind were to hear that conversation, they would call out the farmer who threaten the other one not to grow any corn a huge dumbass. Yeah, sometimes there are arguments over WHERE the corn can be planted, but not to simply grow any corn AT ALL! Because if all of them worked on that logic, it would be economic suicide.

Mary Did You Know IS actually a very well known Christmas song among Christians. It's pretty much never used outside of a religious setting, for fairly obvious reasons. Pentatonix did sing it on one of their Christmas albums, though.

(WARNING. INCOMING RANT) I honestly think that Tyler Perry is pretty racist without even knowing it. He makes all-black or mostly-black movies and TV shows perpetuating stereotypes of black people, his characters are often loud black women fulfilling stereotypes, HIV is often portrayed as "deserved" or as punishment for sins, and his plot lines regularly suggest that aiming higher in life leads to unhappiness, but settling is just fine. The characters in his movies "fit" negative stereotypes. If a white director made Tyler Perry's movies and shows, s/he would be vilified. He's one of the few consistent black filmmakers but why is it "okay" for a black person to perpetuate stereotypes of their own race under the guise of entertainment? As for the many falsehoods and fallacies that play out in his movies, the biggest stereotype might just be that with black success come negative atrocities. If it means anything, Perry's films continue to place blacks who aspire to do more be hesitant to achieve such, for preconceived consequences will follow. And what is even worse, is that his films create such a very unrealistic outlook. How many men such as Idris Elba in Daddy's Little Girls, who plays a strong hardworking mechanic that takes care of his three daughters, are really out there? For most of his films, the women who have fallen from their success in life have two options: either live a more humble life with an underachieving mate or live a lonely one scarred with either disease or unhappiness. In The Family That Preys, Sanaa Lathan was left with nothing while her husband eventually has his own business right after her. In Diary of A Mad Black Woman, Kimberly Elise decides to leave her attorney husband (who was also, guess it: abusive and controlling) for a nice urban factory worker in her small town. What disappoints me the most about his films is that they do not positively reflect the various audiences of black people that he has aspired to attract. I've officially given up on Tyler Perry's works. He's created a ratchet film formula that has become, as one critic called it, "malt liquor for the masses." He is not going to change; he's made millions off of the exploitation of his own people. And what is even more sad is that perhaps he's the very evil and illusion that becomes his very own stereotypes of black success. A level of selling out and lack of social responsibility that is as reckless as Robbie Jones in Temptation or as mindless and arrogant as Sanaa Lathan in The Family That Preys. But perhaps, this comment is for the next aspiring black filmmaker of our generation who aspires to fix that. Mr. Perry, if you're reading this then you will most likely tell me to "go to hell" just like you told a more talented and thought-provoking director named Spike Lee when he criticized you for the same thing...but I would suggest that perhaps your buffoonery of motion pictures will go there as well.

+The Chaos Dragoness I 100% agree with this rant. These are the plots for every Tyler Perry movie ever: Fucked up family with badass teenager/Madea comes in like a Fairy Godmother and fixes things/A romantically or socially desperate black woman meets a guy and finds Jesus

I *TRIED* to watch a Madea movie once out of curiosity. Didn't last minute with how nonsensical it was. I have a few friends and, when my mom was alive, loved it. I can't handle stupid and racist shit. I don't understand how these stupid as fuck movies are making money.

Because many people have terrible tastes in movies. My mother likes some, but not all, of these "Madea" films. I always think to myself: "How do you differentiate a 'good' "Madea" film from a bad one?" Every one of these movies that I have seen fucking sucks. And, she likes Adam Sandler films too. Damn......
