No Parking on the Dance Floor is the first cassette I remember being allowed to play. I was five years old. I remember jumping on the bed and singling Wet My Whistle, Slow Jam and Playmates at the top of my lungs. Good times. I have to try to see them live they sound better than the tape.

Great song, as opposed to Roger Troutman, this group sings without any machines. Just ¡great! greetings from Colombia.

Actually that is not true. it's obvious from that comment you haven't seen the whole concert, Midnight Star had three albums out prior that went unnoticed, before the fourth and most successful, ," No Parking On The Dance Floor" which mainly took off because they COPIED Rogers sound, and copied it from start to finish. (Well , they tried! Lol) When their first single from their fourth album came out the single was called "Electricity", 90% thought it was Roger Troutman ,yet Rogers true fans knew, that's not Roger! that's a band trying to sound like Roger! Yes Midnight Star has two members who are brothers that became great songwriters and they hold their own ! I know them and love and respect them ,but at the same time even Reggie Calloway The Chief member of the group admitted that they took Rogers style and Incorporated it into their own, simply because that's the sound at the time that was selling millions of Records ! By the way, the talk box is NOT, a machine it is a bonafide instrument ! Roger was not the first one to use this sound, (the first one I heard use it was Peter Frampton in the seventies, check out Peter Frampton live 1978 awesome British musician!) Roger was the first one to make the talk box an regular instrument! Midnight Star then copied that style from start to finish on their last three albums! I knew Roger also , we're from the same Hometown ! My uncles are musicians and worked with him over the years. he had a very unique style and sound .the only difference is Roger sound came out of what he called a talk box, a mouth piece connected to a keyboard, Midnight Star used a robotic microphone with sound effects and called it a vocoder , a microphone which was connected to a keyboard, again, very similar. When midnight Star first came out with this album with the song that Wet My Whistle was on , most of those other songs everybody thought was Roger , but real Roger fans said, no no this is someone copying Roger! like I said Midnight Star later had held their own and Reggie and Roger said it became friendly competition. Many other bands would copy the sound like the Bar-Kays, Earth Wind and Fire, Foxy, Micawave, just to name a few but it would only be in a song or two. Freak Show by the Bar-Kays, and Let's Groove by Earth Wind and Fire we're, awesome songs and again Peter Frampton also kept the sound, his own version which was very different from Rogers, Peter used a Donald duck mouth piece and put it in the side of his mouth to make the sound. Midnight Star was the only one who came behind Roger and used his sound as a regular instrument comma on a regular basis! so there you go just to give you a little history there on R&B music. On this song Wet, my whistle there's no " Roger sound", but if you go back and watch this entire concert they open with "Rogers sound" and close with it! And like I said about 5 or 6 songs on every Midnight Star album after that, they use Rogers Sound, that's common knowledge with old-school fans of Roger Troutman and Midnight Star as well. There was only one Roger Troutman, there will never be another. Also 10 years prior to Roger even using the talk box, he was actually famous with his brothers in the band called ZAPP, before he went solo and Incorporated the talk box into his music and made it his signature. If you ever see footage of Roger in the studio you will see he also plays damn near every instrument on his albums and combines all his Sounds by himself, Master musician ! it took one of him to do what nine members of Midnight Star could do, see my point? he was very talented and very awesome and Midnight Star couldn't touch him! again no disrespect to Midnight Star they have become Legends in their own right as well especially the two brothers Reggie and Vincent Calloway who are some of the best songwriters of all time. however ever since they broke up Midnight Star has not had a hit because that Roger sound was no longer used.... again I love Midnight Star and this whole concert was tight! Excellent performance, at the same time, the signature sound they were Rockin was not their own, Zapp & Rogers!
