There's nothing wrong with liking this kind of music. All music is mankind's expression of emotion, whether it's rap, rock, raggea, or classical. People need to be open-minded to ALL types of music. This doesn't mean that one has to like all kinds of music; just appreciate it for what it is (or isn't) and what it's trying to communicate to you, the listener.

My theory that Jack is physical and mental trapped inside the hotel. The ghost and figures he meets convince that belongs there and drive to insanity. When Grady says "You are the caretaker, you've always been the caretaker" I think he's stating that Jack has always been there. But, it's kinda like a Groundhog Day situation; I believe that Jack is re-living this time at the Overlook over and over again. Repeating everyday made him bored and eventually leading to the idea of murdering his family, the original idea from Grady. Thanks for reading.
@EhCanadianGamer5 жыл бұрын
Could be that. Or it could be a mixture of both Jack's Demons and whatever supernatural force that takes place in The Overlook Hotel. And when he dies, he's part of the Hotel's past. "I've always been here".
@theoldwayoffilming73095 жыл бұрын
That's a pretty good idea
@BCS11055 жыл бұрын
Alfie Whyte I believe that Jack is the reincarnation of a former caretaker there and that explains why he is on the photo. The Overlook isn’t just a hotel. It is a living entity that takes over any host who will take them. Willingly or not. Jack became part of The Overlook and that explains why in the deleted scene of the original ending, which has never been released, Mr Ullman tells Danny & Wendy that they never found Jack’s body. The Overlook almost absorbed Jack. It possessed him and then took him in.

when I first saw this movie in the 80s, it gave me goosebumps at this point, as Al Bowlly's version with the Ray Noble band was what my grandfather used to play on his 78 on his gramaphone in the 50s. He'd accompany the song on his piano. wonderful moment for me. Kubrick really gave this novel a typical Kubrick "oddball" movie scenario. The drive along the river from Portland to Timberline Lodge is wonderful.

1980 was such a brilliant and great year for movies and 1980 was the year of The Shining, The Empire Strikes Back, Raging Bull, The Blues Brothers, Caddyshack, Alligator with Robert Forster, Saturn 3 with Farrah Fawcett, Airplane!, Stir Crazy, and The Elephant Man. I Love The Shining so much. The Shining is one of my absolute favorite films, it had stellar direction by Stanley Kubrick, and Jack Nicholson along with Shelley Duvall both did a great job with the film. Jack Nicholson was excellent as Jack Torrance, Jack Torrance's famous line "Here's Johnny!" is one of the best movie quotes of all time, and the hedge maze ending was amazing. I also love The Empire Strikes Back, Alligator, and Saturn 3. The Empire Strikes Back was an awesome Star Wars film by Irvin Kershner, Alligator with Robert Forster was a very good horror film, and Saturn 3 with Farrah Fawcett as well as Moonraker and The Black Hole are the most underappreciated sci-fi films of all time. Overall, 1980 was one of the best movie years, The Shining by Stanley Kubrick is one of my all time favorite films, and The Shining along with The Empire Strikes Back, Raging Bull, The Blues Brothers, Caddyshack, Alligator with Robert Forster, and Saturn 3 with Farrah Fawcett are my top 7 absolute favorites of 1980.

A throwback to the ending of "Dr. Strangelove", it captures the same eerie nostalgic quality of dead voices speaking from past through an ironically sweet tune. The echoey sound of the tune also captures the HUGE space feel of the hotel nicely!
@TROPICADIA14 жыл бұрын
It's the spirit aspect of it. I like to consider that after Wendy and Danny leave the hotel and Jack rots in the snow, the hotel just sits around with still air around it, and since the spirits don't need to show a physical manifestation of themselves to anyone, they celebrate. Which is also why I like the fade-in and echo to the song and voices. You hear the voices even though they're not there, like what happens when you're alone in a house for too long.

Many have stated before, but I tend to believe that the clapping and the talking at 3:11 are from the ghosts that are trapped in the Overlook Hotel, endlessly reliving July 4th, 1921. Even if it may sound like Behind the Scenes of the film production wrapping up, it was genius for Kubrick to leave the audio of the clapping and the talking to give the impression that what we are listening to are the ghost of the hotel.

The Shining is one of those films that's great to watch while the sun is closing its flight across the sky and sinks down into the stars. You get attached to it, its horrifing and magical at the very same time. It's different from any "horror" movie ever made. It has the plot of a well made drama, but the images of a brillant horror. You just don't get better than that. You have the depressing 1980's style camera angles and shots of the mopey hotel, which ultimately is the scariest part of all.
