A beautiful tradition, we should save our traditions in future, it is part of our self-image. Don't let politics change everything we are. I would also like to celebrate midsommar in sweden one day. Greets to Sweden from Germany

This is the best time of the year, and all u non-swedish who are saying we arent doing this are lying. Ofc we are dancing around the pole drinking beer and schnaps and singing songs, there is juts nothing more swedish to it MIDSUMMER FTW!

@Daniel96a1 Ingenting har med åldern att göra på något sätt. Midsommar ska firas som den alltid har gjort på ett bra sätt. Om man känner för att parta med sina kompisar why not, men det har ingenting med högtiden att göra.

What's the song at 6:15? We have one with the same melody about a frog

Looks like I've answered my own question. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Små_grodorna Looks like it's a french melody (like a lot of nursery rhymes) that's made its way to different cultures. The version in question was the Turkish one küçük kurbağ (little frog)

Another swede here! Gotta agree with what daiini said, about 50% of the population does this, and its mostly for their children and family. But the majority of our population (especially younger people) get wasted and party like there is no tomowrrow hahaha
@Sziadan
@Sziadan 13 жыл бұрын
3% might be a bit low, but it's definitely not 50% of the Swedish population that do this. (Seriously guys?? You honestly think half of the population is doing this??) Perhaps 10% of the population actually dance around a may pole, The rest of us are out partying like there's no tomorrow. I personally haven't even seen a may pole in years now, and no one that I know is doing this shit. Perhaps some of the people who live out in the forest actually think this is how you celebrate midsummer.

No, witches have never had anything to do with midsummer, let's not confuse the non-Swedes here! :p It's (partly) to do with the celebration of light and summer, since midsummer is always close to the longest day of the year (meaning the day with the most sunlight, sommarsolståndet). Tro mig, jag vet varför vi firar midsommar, jag ville bara rätta f00g3n som inte har en aning om vad han/hon pratar om ;) Jag skäms faktiskt lite att det finns puckon som jämför midsommar med St Patrick's Day...

"No one takes a sip until a drinking song has been performed"?.... I have to be honest and say that before any drinking songs have been performed, 99.8% of the participants are already dead-drunk and fast asleep under the table...

Many of those WITH children ARE REGULAR Swedes Tompii, and this is the traditional way to celebrate. Now yes, now and as in the old days the adults get drunk when they go out later without the kids, that is ALSO part of the tradition, the old danceplaces with the outdoor woodenfloor.....and all the babys born as a result. So dont try and make that part into something new cause it is not. First its the daytime celebration...then its the evening one....where no kids should be part of. AND yes.....I am Swedish by birth, heritage and was raised there....and lived there until a year ago

That is nice to know that the children are only dancing around the maypole penis-symbol in Sweden where I also live.. But it does not seem right when children and women are decorating the penis-symbol before it gets erected. But yes it's nice that you leave the kids at home once the drinking and fucking begins in the evening after the dancing around the maypenis has ended and the children has gone to bed. I wonder what makes swedes write like you did.. like it is something parents should get a medal for leaving the kids at home when it's a party.. it almost seems like you want to close your eyes to something that you are ashamed of by saying that you leave the kids home like that makes up for making the children jump like animals around a penis-symbol. försöker inte vara taskig mot dig personligen utan jag menar alla som känner sig skyldiga, tycker bara det är helt sjukt att dansa runt en majpenis utan att se vad pålen symboliserar.. och vissa majstångar har som en pil som pekar uppåt mot himmlen så majstången är en penis och en pil mot himmlen bara för att män är gudar och kvinnor är tjuvar som tog mannens revben enligt bibeln och därför ska kvinnor tryckas ner..

Its tragedy that this "swedish" family knows more about swedish traditions than most swedes do. Some swedes of course still practise these traditions (often the old ones keeping this alive), but its an minority. Most swedes just get drunk or do something else. The massive immigration from middle east thats been going on for many many years now, with up to almost 100.000 "refugees" per year, into a country with only 9 mill. people, will take care of forgetting this nice tradition in a near future

If you dont spend time with your family in midsummer you may not call yourself a swedish man/woman. Damn immigrants destoying our beutiful traditions and country.
