It's Johanna's birthday and she picked Midsommar to review with Tony and Crystal. In this movie review/podcast we will talk about how MESSED UP this movie is! Everything from the opening scene, the cliff diving moment, and a part that will make you never want to drink lemonade again.
A couple travel to Sweden to visit their friend's rural hometown for its fabled midsummer festival, but what begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult.

I saw this movie in theaters and a woman brought in THREE of her kids, none close to teen age. The youngest had to be between 5-7. That kid is going to need some therapy later in life.

The part where she’s dreaming and sees the old man’s head all busted and it looks like it could be a prop but then it goes into backwards speed and it turns back into the old man alive looking all mean at you; that was turbo graphic

Despite great performances and imagery, I found the film fairly pointless, because despite all the mistakes the group made their fate was sealed when they arrived there, they were all either going to be killed or sacrifice and Danny was always going to be chosen to join them, so felt a little pointless. Hence why the characters come across as dicks, so that makes the plot pointless.

Caught this movie about 2 months ago on Prime Video before it being pulled. My mother sat through a 2 and a half hour movie w/o going on her phone. That's how you know this movie is immersive. Will have to watch the directors cut I bought from A24 website. P.S. I really liked the movie. The dancing scene was really well shot and choreographed.

I saw this movie in an empty theater like I was the only one there for a matinee showing on a weekday on my day off and the theater attendant checked on me DURING the sex scene and gave me the most confused look like "wtf are you watching!?" kind of looked and I laughed so hard. 7:00 Tony is wrong on that, on the northern hemisphere; especially where I live, there are days during summer where the sun never goes down and it continues to stay sunny in the middle of the night, then during winter there are days where the sun does not go up at all, the planet shifts in a way where that happens at some areas on earth, I think both north and south sides of earth.

this movie has a kind of culture shock feel, can't put my finger on it, but i've lived in two different countries and constantly felt dizzy and had headaches over there and just felt all misaligned, there is this different temperature, altitude etc feeling when you're in a different land and this confusion and this movie has that off balance feel

Ngl, Tony in a lost boy onesie awakened something in me and i'm a bit scared now..As to what Italians celebrated : Romans celebrated an Etruscan holiday on the 20th of June, the holiday of the God Summanus, but it was abolished in 380 AD with the adoption of Christianity as a state religion. The fact is though, in Italy and other countries with a similar latitude, summer comes earlier and lasts longer.(the solstice is still the same obviously). So the Romans had their fertility festival the 30th of may,the Ambarvalia.Then there were festivities to celebrate the harvest at the end of August: basically from the 24th(opening of the"mundus cereris") to the 27th (Volturnalia). All of the Roman traditions were assimilated more or less in the Christian liturgical calendar, so in most part of Italy there was some kind of holy procession at the end of May and a big holiday in the middle of August. In modern day Italy the 15th of August is now a state holiday, so called Ferragosto,officially the holy day of the Assumption into Heaven of Mary
