The scariest part of the movie is not from a scene, but from the IDEA that you would very innocently agree to go along with someone you consider a friend to a foreign country, not at all knowing exactly where they're taking you or what to expect, and then, after arriving, you realize it's a cult out in the middle of nowhere, and there's no way to escape or call for help. Being someone who's traveled overseas to non-touristy areas, that notion really struck me.

@Bratislav Metulski no c-movie would ever be capable of being stuck in my head for as long as Midsommar has been. It may have some weak sides but overall it's really good. The atmosphere, the landscapes, the music, the dubious morality behind the cult, the ending... You may not like the film cuz it's certainly not for everyone, but it's not a c-movie.
@rubyred3580
@rubyred3580 4 жыл бұрын
@Bratislav Metulski It's not really meant to be unpredictable, or "fun" per se. It's fine if you didn't enjoy it, everything is up to personal preference, but just because you personally don't enjoy a slow-burn flim that's meant to get under your skin instead of shock you doesn't mean it's bullshit

The scary thing is when you realise how vulnerable and easily manipulated you are. I felt myself sympathising with the sect sometimes, I felt myself feeling happy for Dani for finding a community, I felt myself jealous over the “solidarity” they had in Hårga, and this is exactly how cults recruit people. I read the leaked script and although I won’t spoil it I will say that hereditary is scarier but midsommar is more disturbing. How excellently they provided enough information to give you the premise and some of the thriller elements of the film without giving anything away? The way they blended the clips in with the music? I keep coming back to watch the trailer just because the breathing + violin part is such a bop. And, after seeing the movie, being able to watch all the clips flashing through at the end that inexplicably unsettled you when you first watched the trailer and now make sense with context and still unsettle you? Bloth Sear I haven’t watched it but I read the leaked script. A24’s horror films never struck me as “scary.” I see them more as artistically disturbing. If you watched carefully, earlier in the film there's a sort of tapestry with a "love story": a girl puts her public hair in a pie and menstrual blood in a drink so that the man falls in love with her. That's exactly what Maja did, and that line refers to that "love story" and the ritual.

Idk why but I’m intrigued by these kinds of movies, like Hereditary and Mother!. Like weird horror fiction. They’re disturbing but I’m weirdly into it. Edit: I do not think that these movies are deep or anything. Im just saying that these types of movies are something i never expected to actually “enjoy” or be entertained by because of how effed up they are, and i’m really interested in the concept of psychological horror instead of your typical supernatural and crime thrillers. That doesn’t necessarily mean i think that they’re the greatest movies of all time because there is always something better out there.

@@kenny6459 Well there are many different takes on the movie but the most popular one is that Jennifer Lawrence's character is Mother Nature and her husband is God himself. The strangers in the beginning are Adam and Eve, the two sons were Cain and Abel, and the crowds of people were his worshippers. The movie is heavy with symbolism but when you go back and watch it with religion in mind, it makes total sense. That's why when her husband left abruptly, shit always hit the fan much like when God left and we started chaos again. Some people think he was Satan and the movie itself was blasphemy but it does follow the bible quite heavily and its from an atheists point of view really because the director is atheist.
