@@3rdFloorArcade hello. Thanks for this console review. I just ordered one of these. It’s my first arcade console. I have seen people say this thing is a pain to put together Points I gave seen negatives are. 1. The top with name and light will not set right because screws on the monitor will not let it line up right. 2. Once all the stiff is put together it’s difficult to sit the other side on it and get everything lined up to put together. 3. The raised panel on the joystick top has sharp edges on your left hand side. I have seen some upgrade the monitor size to 20” inches. Have you done any mods to fix the raised lip or joystick upgrades, or monitor upgrades and so forth? If so I would like to know more.

I really do miss the arcade scene, I know there's a handful of them out there today. But it use to be several arcades in every town even in liquor stores and 7 Eleven.

Yeah that arcade scene from the 80s/90s really was some great times! The closest one to me nowadays is down in Philadelphia called Barcade. They are definitely hard to come by.

When I was a kid I spent hundreds of dollars in quarters on Shinobi in the nearby 7 Eleven. I missed the first two runs of the Golden Axe cabinet due to the release being right in the middle of the outbreak after I lost my job. I now have a much better job and have a lot saved and have just recently preordered the Golden Axe cab. I’m so stoked to have Shinobi in my collection. The other games are great too but I’m mainly in it for Shinobi.

For real. You gotta really look hard for a true classic arcade these days. It’s why I also just started my own home arcade. We do have an “arcade” called Boxcar where I live, but it’s really more of a club/bar disguised as an arcade…it’s not a legit one; hard to explain but if you’re there it feels more like a Dave and Busters than an actual old school arcade

Thanks for reviewing this Midway Legacy Cabinet for all of the world to see. You definitely sold me on investing in this cab as they made some really good improvements to it compared to the wave 1 cabs back when they were released. Lovin the light up marquee and tighter controls plus some of the games selected like Joust and Defender are good picks for this cab. Paperboy was the original drive-by back in the day on the NES and the arcades as one of my buddies would call it. Overall, very impressive legacy cab and it's worth a buy on my list. Looking forward to seeing the Capcom(or Street Fighter) Legacy Cabinet in action when you review it on your channel!

Hi Jason, maybe you can give your opinion. I’m on the fence when it comes to buying the new 30th anniversary MK vs the MK legacy cab. I know the new arcade has a nice design and the molded coin door, but the screen is a little washed. Knowing that you own the MK legacy cab would you sacrifice the new design vs the overall gameplay/monitor. Thanks Jason.

I think the two cabs are about even given the pluses and minuses of each. Or maybe just wait for the next MK cabinet to come out. I think they will do another with the good BOE monitor with the new cab design. I would probably end up getting the next one actually.

Wow, wizard of war! Played that one a lot as a kid, along with gorf. Another game that carried the same style graphics. Just hearing the sounds on that one running in attract mode in the arcade brings me back. Will have to pick this cab up and add to the game room. Good rundown on the games man. I love this cab. The game lineup is fantastic but I'm a big Midway fan. I got stickers coming for the front blank plate to display Paperboy, Tapper, Rampage and Defender. Everything plays and looks great. Now do this again with a Sega Legacy cab and I'd be in arcade heaven!

I think I'd also prefer other Midway games included. This is what's preventing me from buying ANY of their Legacy lines of cabs. I can picture much better versions coming later on. But if the next version isn't as good, and you've waited, you miss out on the games selection you would've liked more. Frustrating. Makes me think buying one of those Pi cabs from places like Arcade Mod Up. ALL the games included - though I'd much rather have what I want from A1up.

I would have like to have seen it with scanlines on for the Mortal Kombats. My problem with most emulators is that with modern LCD tv's the edges are very jagged. I have a RetroPie here and when I connected it to an actual CRT TV it was amazing! No more jagged edges.

@@petermacnab1871 I usually keep them turned off. Scan lines are little lines/rows in the graphics which are meant to create that vintage CRT display on the monitor like the arcades had.

The only one I was weary about was Wizard of War but after seeing you play it, I could definitely get into that one! If I had to nitpick, it would be that its got only 2 players for games like Rampage and Gauntlet but other than that, its a flawless cab.

Walmart sells the cheaper version without the riser and light up marquee. I definitely recommend paying the extra $ to get the riser and light up marquee, it makes a big difference 👍

The controls for defender on the original rampage wasn’t bad . It is actually pretty close to the real defender machine in arcade. The only diff was the thrust button is on left where else in the real defender thrust is on right

the only issue I see with this cabinet is that there is no Robotron 2048 which is annoying because there is 2 joysticks they could probably get to work

Paperboy is a fun game but no handlebars does take away the authenticity. I think a better choice would have been NARC which would fit better with the joystick scheme. Great review.

i built mine yesterday and i love it but last night i had problems with the volume switch getting stuck all the way up or all the way down. i wasnt harsh w the controls bc they felt a bit fragile and already the volume switch has a problem. this is a newer cab with not many reviews nor replacement parts so im just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem. great review tho thank you!!

Great review! I just got mine today. I love everything except I feel the cabinet is a bit shorter and when standing up the marquee gets in your eye sight at least it does for me. Sitting on a stool improves it a bit but I still feel like it should be a bit higher or maybe tilted back a bit?

I noticed in some of the games it look like when you launched them they already had credits in them. Does it save your credits? One thing that annoys me with Golden Tee is it saves your credits, and never resets back to zero.

Awesome that this cabinet saves your scores. I recently got the Marvel VS. Capcom cabinet. It is of course very awesome that it has the wifi connection feature for updates and multiplayer. And there are online leaderboards for the multiplayer. However, it does not save the in game arcade mode scores, which I find very annoying.

Yeah I’m definitely very happy all the games on here save scores. It makes a huge difference for sure especially on games like Joust, Tapper, Wizard of Wor. 👍

Great Review! BTW, did you realize you can run right and left in Tapper to pick up the empty glasses and tips? You don't have to just stand at the end of the bar table and wait.

I really wish they extended that marquee out. Would have really looked amazing on this. And I’m glad they are using plastic moldings for the coin doors on their future releases like Killer Instinct and X-men. The sticker on these look kind of cheap but not terrible.

I’m assuming the marquee sounds extend all the way because it would have gotten in t way if the monitor.

Serious question. Did you have any issues with the angle of the screen? I am 6'1 and I read somewhere that since the screen isn't tilted like the Gen 3 cabinets, if you play this cabinet standing, a part of the top of the screen is cut off. Please confirm. Thanks.

It is a slight concern when you play standing I’m about 6 feet and when I’m playing standing up i would say the top 1/2 inch or 1 inch is blocked off. But I almost always play these sitting down on a stool so for me it’s never an issue.

Hey Jason. Did your arcade 1 up legacy edition of mk2 and sf2 come with the seals over the 2 top openings? Both of my arcades just came in today and missing seals although they appear new.

Hey Alex, yes both of mine came with the standard gold seals on the outer box. If everything is there inside you should be ok but I’d definitely inspect it all pretty closely 👍

@@3rdFloorArcade I opened the box of sf2 and the contents look new. Very odd they are missing. In wonder if someone just took them off the boxes at GameStop or fedex. I would return them due to that missing but of course game stop sold out. I guess I’ll let it be as long as they are new. Kinda bothersome for me having that missing lol.

I was nervous about that issue before setting this up but I’m happy to say it really isn’t much of an issue. It’s not as raised up as I originally thought and my hand comfortably just rests over it 👍

Jason, do you think they will update this cabinet to support online play over wifi? I actually think that would have been a great selling point for this cab don't you? And since your review ( which was great ) alot of people are saying the cab has major design flaws. What are your thoughts on that as well? Keep up the great work. I don’t think they are going to update the Legacy cabs but I do think they are going to release a whole new Mortal Kombat cabinet with WiFi enabled online play. I think it’s going to be in the first batch of new cabs for 2022 in my opinion. Would definitely be an awesome cabinet!

Graphics are great. And with the option to turn on and off scan lines makes it even better. The scan lines look fantastic if you like that option but I normally play with that turned off. 👍

Can’t wait to play defender now! I played it for all about a minute on my rampage cab and was like screw this. Beyond unplayable.and in my opinion, after Galaga Paperboy was the greatest game of all time. Discovered it at a ski resort in Vermont the day the challenger went down. I was playing it and I heard all this shrieking from the bar. I walked over to see what the commotion was, watched the tv for about 30 seconds and then went back to Paperboy!

It’s so nice to have a playable Defender! I had that Rampage cab also and I think I only played it a handful of times. And Paperboy is such a legend! Even without the handle bar controls, it’s still pretty fun to play.

Most of them come with the riser. However Walmart sells cheaper options of the cabs without the riser and light up marquee.

Not blurry but rather a bunch of small rows/lines in the graphics. It gives it that vintage CRT look from arcades but honestly I prefer keeping the scanlines turned off.
