Blood is fine. It's a good thing. It's the people still complaining about washing the toes when youre just gonna grind it down and off anyway. 🙄 Born in the 80s, 3 staples for all our many scratches and scrapes were alcohol, peroxide, and iodine. Aaron I have a question, do Winter temps, change the hardness of the hoof compared to Summer temps? I hope you had a Merry Christmas and have a Happy New Year.
@midwesternhooftrimmer67352 жыл бұрын
😉 funny thing.. I actually had that in the video but cropped it out because I felt the video was to long and that was the boring part🤦♂️. But no the hardness is determined by moisture so for the most part that varies from farm to farm but stays pretty consistent on the farms 😊
@laurajayne49202 жыл бұрын
I recently saw a hoof trimmer use duct tape instead of the vet wrap. The reason given was to weatherproof the dressing. What are your thoughts on that? I certainly don't have the knowledge to have an opinion, but my thoughts go to holding moisture and bacteria in.
@midwesternhooftrimmer67352 жыл бұрын
I have a few good Buddies that use duct tape.. If it works for them and their cows and their farms that is great. I'm never gonna bash somebody that gets results 🤷♂️ But for me personally I like the lesion to breathe and drain.

I've heard that Holstein cattle (cows) handle cold better than heat. I guess it's all that fermentation/ digestion happening. If you have herbivores in the winter you have to make sure they have plenty of roughage in the winter.

@mademoisellekaya14382 жыл бұрын
As a matter of fact, as soon red cells show in a large amount, it also means the body tends to get rid of the bacterial infections. Indeed not cutting in helps because that causes a longer time to heel up but, if 'the Red' flows OUT, the bad stuff can't get IN so well.

I am a retired nurse and it is unfortunate that you need to cover the lesion with iodine if blood appears because if you are watching a hoof trimming video I think one should expect a little blood. It is obvious from the way you treat the cows that you wouldn’t intentionally hurt them.

I came here specifically for the blood!! I don’t want to see gallons of iodine dowsed after every slight trim. Iodine is supposed to left for the end when finishing up and wrapping her up. I understand you were subtle with your language and alluded to being demonetized if you don’t censor the “graphic images,” but if this is how it’s going to be from now with your videos then I will likely stop watching. I don’t want to stop watching because I really enjoy your raw videos and the great care and empathy you show to these animals when treating them.
