A way that I've kept my clothes limited: I never buy new hangers. If I have too many clothes for the hangers I currently own, I have to donate my least favorite thing to free one up. It's been working like an absolute charm. I used to have a massive clothes-hoarding problem until I started doing this. Highly recommend.

I do something similar, except I allow myself to buy hangers. Instead I have two racks in my closet. Shirts/pants all start on one side until they have been worn. Then I hang them back up on the other side. If I get down to a few items and I don't want to wear them they get removed. Then I start back over again. This keeps me wearing my clothes and prevents me from keeping things I won't wear.

Growing up, about once a year Mom would tell us to put all unwanted things in the hallway, and we 4 kids would rummage through each others unwanted stuff to keep what we wanted. That done, we would tell Mom and she would collect what was left and donate it. She called it Garbage Give-away Day 😄

Our spare room got super cluttered like this! My husband’s an oncologist/professor, I’m a school principal, we have three kids under age 10, and a boatload of animals because I can’t say no to cute, furry things. We get so unbelievably busy, and sometimes we start just “sequestering” the things we can’t handle at the moment into the guest room. It’s a terrible habit, but it’s also about survival. It can happen to anyone! No one should judge people’s homes! Love what you do, man!

@DMinSFBay I grew up with the 1 room always being cluttered. It was a very small bedroom that was part of an extension that my parents had done to the house in the early 1980s. My Dad got sick of Mum's clutter in there, so he put in floor to ceiling industrial strength shelving along one wall. It's has a huge cupboard on another. My desk and return and bookcase made its way in there. He labelled everything, all things similar were together, just like his garage. And ever year or so he would go in and reorganise it coz mum was so lazy she knew he would do it. Dad died in February 2017, fast forward to now and there is crap everywhere. I moved back in with her last year as I couldn't afford to rent on my own any more. And the 3 rooms that are mine, lounge, bedroom and craft/study, my bedroom is the only room that doesn't have any of her stuff in it. It's not hoarding, it's just laziness. Dad did everything for her, and I refuse to.

A cleaning client of mine literally has toys in every room of their house! Even in the en suite shower and mom and dad’s room! They wanted a whole house clean every two weeks but I don’t have a long enough spot open to pick up all the toys and do a detailed cleaning. After asking repeatedly I finally had to tell the mom that I wouldn’t give them a spot unless they ( the parents ) put limits on where toys could be in the house and that there was no way I would clean the kids rooms until a purge was done for all 3 kids. I know! You said what to them?!?!?! I felt I had to help this poor mom gain control over their home and I’m fine in being the “bad guy!” Now the home only has toys in the kids rooms, the family room upstairs and in the basement family room. I don’t even see toys out on the deck anymore, just in the yard. These parents FINALLY have some space of their own and their home is not filled with clutter anymore! Mom has since thanked me for being honest with her and telling her what she needed to hear.

Getting rid of excess clothes has been hard and rewarding. I started by realizing that I HATED switching out summer and winter clothes. It just wouldn’t get done. I would dig out some winter stuff, and then a few weeks later dig out some more, etc. next thing I knew I had clothes piled on the floor again because it wouldn’t all fit in the dressers and a had a mix of summer and winter clothing. So when I started purging I also designated drawers which ALSO limits how much I can keep. Anything too small is an automatic donate (because let’s face it I haven’t lost the weight in 20 years 😂). Anything with stains or holes is trash. I only kept a few for doing dirty work at home. I have two dressers, under the bed drawers, and a wardrobe (No closets in this house). There are specific drawers for tshirts, long sleeved shirts, dress pants, work pants, etc. The laundry has gotten SO much easier. I still have too much, but it’s more manageable

We had a Kirby at mom's, thing worked like a dream until it finally just took a shit. By that point, repairing it would have cost as much as the machine itself and trading it in for a new one would have only covered half the price. :( Before the Kirby, mom would always have a Bissell, so naturally my rebellious ass went through two other brands (Shark, Dirt Devil) that had both taken a crap within a year of eachother. I went pouting back to a Bissell and aside from having to send that one back to the company for a free replacement (which I've had for the last six years), the only problems I've had with it were my own screwups. An example of a screwup was when I deep-cleaned the machine after moving into my current apartment I submerged the brush in water. Luckily I was still able to order a replacement from the company. 😁 The machine sounds like hell by now, but it still works great. My neighbor nicknamed it "the beast", so I don't vacuum too early in the day or too late at night anymore lol. ...aw crap...I hope they still manufacture belts for it when I eventually run through the 3 I've got put away...

I’m a 10-12 hr sleeper. Always have been. General Anxiety, PTSD, CPTSD, Chronic Depression, as a single, widowed mother of an autistic and severely epileptic child. My world and energy revolves around him 🥰 I can’t bear myself to be absent and negligent in his breakthrough epileptic episodes, which last until he receives his evening meds. It usually takes his body to recover a couple days. More complicated than can be explained or most people care to hear about. So yes, myself, lives on fumes. If I have the depth and energy, I invest it in our personal time, which he adores and appreciates. 🥰

I gather the clean clothes out of the dryer into my arms and take them straight to my bed, fold or hang them, and put them away immediately. Nothing ever sits in a laundry basket. Hands-on, a load of laundry takes less than 10 minutes. Letting it pile up does not actually save you any time. The busier you are, the more streamlined and organized you have to be.

As I'm older I find it harder to do things I put my clean clothes in a large Aldi's grocery bag, carry it upstairs dump it all out on the bed, lay hangers beside them and immediately start hanging clothes in the closet this time of year is a little harder because of all the sleeveless shirts that have to be attached to the little hooks on the hangers eventually I want to buy some of those velvet lined clothes hangers that don't allow clothes to slip off the hangers and take up less space in the closet. I'm 68yr old and that is the way I've been doing laundry for decades - straight out of the dryer to my bed and straight onto hangers or folded for a dresser drawer! A few things I might collect to iron but I've found from the dryer to the closet is the fastest way to get it done and have nice looking clothes.

Both based in Australia and spreading positivity. They do free lawn care for those in need of it. I hope you consider checking them out if you haven’t already. Thank you for your continued videos. You always help me relax and give me a laugh after a long day. What you’re doing for all these people is amazing

You'll get there. I started decluttering with Marie Kondo 7 years ago. It probably took 2 years to get it completely done but it makes life so much easier. I'm so happy watching this because I can see the huge progress I've made with relatively little effort.

A less overwhelming method for clothes: pretend you are leaving the house for a two week trip, where you are doing everything you normally do, as though, say, you were getting your floors refinished. Pack for two weeks. When everyone is packed, throw away every other clothing item. Most people do laundry weekly, so that gives you enough extra. You automatically pack what fits, is in good repair, goes together and that you like. Saves putting mental effort into deciding if this one random sock sparks joy.

Honestly, purging is one of the best feelings. It feels so good to declutter and reorganize a space afterwards. I got really into Marie Kondo stuff about ten years ago and I think about "Does this spark joy?" a lot when it comes to my stuff.

Mack, you are such a blessing to so many. You probably more of a blessing than you actually know. I live with a hoarder and trust me it’s exhausting dealing with a spouse with this mental disorder. I am the total opposite. I have OCD, and it drives me absolutely bananas sometimes. I keep my space in order and I let him have his space.

This video is quite relatable. This summer I tackled the decluttering of the basement where my parents have accumulated 23 years of family stuff for a lack of time to sort through old clothes and toys and old papers. Your videos made me look at the basement with a new eye and the grid method worked very well for what I already did by myself, a wardrobe and a bookshelf.

I guess I never really thought about it as I have all four seasons of clothes in one dresser and maybe four nice dress outfits in the closet and two pair of shoes. I love to do this kind of cleaning as it’s more organizing and very rewarding because the end result is awesome. Great job folding Mac, Bonnie would be impressed😂. I remember my kids and grandkids having all the toys too and helping them to clean up. You’re right, it’s hard when you’re a busy family and I’m sure you made their day. I know I would have loved that when raising my kids and working two jobs. Great job❤ Subscribed to Fife Free Cleaning and they hit 1.4k today!

Limiting what you have is the best way to keep clean and organized. I got rid of all of my dishes and glasses and bought some loose Correlle plates and bowls along with drinking glasses. It is so much nicer to put away dishes when they fit easily into the cabinets.
