That's right, don't ride your ktm exc until you fix this problem! This is dangerous and must check immediately. I have a 2018 ktm exc 250. Not sure which models of ktm dirt bike or enduro bike have this issue but you should check and let me know in the comments below if you have any ideas on how to fix this problem. It could be just the older models. I'm not sure about the 2020 models of exc. Ktm has refused to take blame for this. This coule be just a problem with the 250 exc or maybe the 300 exc as well I'm not too sure. Make sure you check your bikes immediately and let me know.

Guys the easiest way to fix this issue is that you go to first car mechanic and take some wheel weights... Just stick them up to your bike and thats it. Glue is strong enough and is gonna hold for a long time. Its working nice with my EXC 350 2018. have fun, stay healthy and enjoy!

2018 exc 500 with 2700 miles (approx 125 hrs) and can see a tiny bit of wear. With the mudflap off and looking down on my bracket from the top, i can see aside from that obvious wear, it’s machined to be a bit thinner on the left leg side because that bracket is offset (right) on the swing arm. On the part of my bracket not worn at all on either side, with some callipers I measured the thickness of that bracket where yours is worn thin, at 3.95mm on the right leg side and 2.75mm on the left leg side. So I bet even though yours is worn much thinner, it was already at least 25% thinner on that side.

As a mechanical engineer it's quite sloppy it wear so much yes. But you are not going to break it any time soon. You can probably hang a small car on that piece off aluminium. Should be more worried about the frame cracking underneath the fuel tank when hitting big jumps and blowing trough the suspension for a long period off time.

I have a 2019 300EXC it’s only done 2 hours but does show some sign of rubbing on the plastic not the aluminium casting. The aluminium machining is angled to follow the curve of the swing arm which does amplify the problem. The plastic trim itself won’t wear the aluminium out, but grit and dust build up in that area will act as a grinding paste and wear the aluminium. The plastic mud guard is made from TPU plastic which while flexible is very hard wearing and may well stand up better than the aluminium in the presence of grit and dirt. I’ve taken the plastic trim off and simply (for now) placed 3 steel washers between the trim and the bike this now gives about 4/5mm clearance between the shock mount and the guard. This should eradicate any issues in the future. This is a quick and easy fix, a piece of thin felt could also be glued to the wear point to limit any contact.

Hey buddy. Yeah I JB welded a metal plate over it so it’s all good now. Just wares away on the plate instead of the frame. A lot of people just glue coins there one late as and that seems to do the trick. It’s basically the dirt and grit that gets stuck on the back of the plastic that rubs on the aluminium

We spotted this early on and stuck some carbon mtb frame cable rub protectors on the aluminium where the flap rubs grit and sand along it. The 2019 bikes have a slight raised bit of extra aluminium in that spot, which is better - but not by much. I haven't seen the 2020 bikes in detail to check if they have addressed the issue properly. Anyway, it's not ideal but it is preventable just by sticking something there and keeping an eye on it. :)

It is thinner on that side because of the arc of the swingarm opening for the tire. Mine has 80 hours and some of the finish has worn off due to a bump on the mold. no metal has worn away because plastic is softer than metal so it can't. The harder material always wears the softer one. There is no screw in that location as someone else has mentioned. It's fine. Someone post a video or picture of a mount actually wearing through. Hi mate, I’m away at the moment but will check mine when I get home, as you said, glueing a piece of metal or plastic to it will help with wear, shame on KTM as they keep on selling bikes with the same issue 😬

Every YZ125/250 same crap transmissions for years - and VIBRATE JUNK!!!!!!!!!! Bycycle Chain and JUNK sprokets, crap bar bend, crap grips, no hand guards, then the ABCD pistons another joke. @MidWestMX

Yeah I’ve been to my local dealership. They are thinner on the chain side for sure but the wear is happening. It’s noticeable on a lot of bikes. You can see where the wear is actually happening and mine has gone scarily thin. A lot thinner than from the dealership

LastWhiteManStanding haha because Honda has never had valve issues or weak clutchs or air fork issues😂. I have had mainly Honda’s yamahas and KTM’s and the Honda’s were the least reliable when it comes to their 4strokes . I have 5 Katos atm and my son has 1 and they have all been reliable 2 stroke and 4stroke motocross and enduro . The old Honda’s were great but sadly longevity doesn’t seem to be in the Honda mindset mind you looking at that pds mount Ktm has screwed up big time .

Meanwhile KTM/Husky OWN Enduro - the big 4 abandoned 2 strokes (don't even mention the 1990's YZ250) unless one gets wrist surgery from all of the vibration, crap transmission and clutch (bearings made from tin), garbage levers/bars/chain/sprockets/plastics turn white (if you look at them). Seized in bolts in brass in the tank, crap air box that LEAKS in the boot. Just like the CR's same old crap leaking air boot (bottom end/top destroyed), CR's piston snags on port (taking out entire engine). HORRIBLE aluminum frames feel like a one rides a 1970 Bultaco. Funny how these pom-pom wavers never mention the AMOUNT of money it takes on CR/YZ and owned many never going back to them since they went to the NASCAR 4 JUNK engines.... Horrible Outdated Negative Dung Arse
