As a former lifeguard, I’ve almost drowned a million times trying to save someone else while they were trying to use me to hold themselves up, but I couldn’t imagine wearing 15+ lbs of gear while someone is trying to drown you in the middle of the ocean at that…
@blackswan198318 күн бұрын
Right? I worked at a pool for years and a double clutch was my worst nightmare. People here don't seem to realize this dude nearly drowned the officer for real, and it could've happened 5 feet from the boat.
@adabsurdum590517 күн бұрын
Which makes it even dumber that A) he reached over the side of the boat like that instead of waiting until the suspect got exhausted and gave up B) the other cops were WAY more concerned about telling this dude how bad they would whoop his ass than saving their friend from drowning

That's why you can usually swim away from cops unless it's something big enough for them to deploy a helicopter. They can't just leave their guns on the beach, get naked, and swim after you. But if you evade the man in blue you still have to deal with the man in grey

In my trading as a lifeguard, I was trained to swim with full clothing (winter clothes) and extra divers weight belt of 10 kg. (20 pounds) just to train muscles and strength, as well as as having clothes on when in water (in a swimming pool). It is however difficult when submerged and disoriented though. Especially if the water is cold. The flotation device is for a person, not a geared up person probably, so float8mg to the surface is taking a long time. The officer was disoriented I think, and therefore perhaps swimming down instead of up and taking longer to get to the surface.

@mommy2libras18 күн бұрын
We get a few of those in the gulf but this isn't a place where a bunch of them hang out in great numbers, though we see more in the winter months. Some migrate from the US east coast and come down for the winter then leave again when it gets warmer. You're much more likely to run into a blacktip, tiger, mako or bull shark. Or hammerhead, which we have plenty of. You see those a lot close to shore because they love to chase the sting rays that hang out in the very shallow- and I mean like less than knee deep- water but your likelihood of being attacked by one is about zero. There's never been a fatal hammerhead attack on record and few bites. They splash a lot though, and freak people out. Our bull sharks are another story. That's what will probably get you if you're swimming off the gulf coast of Florida. They're super aggressive and unlike other sharks, they won't bite once then realize you're not their food & leave you alone. No, they'll keep coming back to rip your a** apart. We had several people attacked just this summer over in Panama City, I think. No one died but I think one girl lost an arm.
@Debra.Justice18 күн бұрын
@@mommy2libras You’re so right about the Bulls. They are extremely aggressive. I think of the “Big 3” I believe the Bull is more dangerous than Tigers or Great Whites. I think the Oceanic White-tip is another very aggressive shark. But you want encounter those unless you’re in open ocean.
