That's an incorrect interpretation of that fable. In the fable, the scorpion stings the frog even though he has no rational reason to do so and cites that he does it because it's "in his nature." This guy knew he was going to be caught if he gave his real name, so rationally he tried to avoid that by lying. It WAS arguably in his rational interest to try and lie his way out of it. The amount of people in comments asking what he did wrong for the stop to begin with is amazing. You people understand that if they get a call they have to respond, right? If the caller says some inebriated guy is almost falling into the water, the police are obligated to investigate and make sure he isn't a danger to himself.

@@nsahandler Yes they do, to ensure there is nothing wrong. All the AH had to do is comply and if he did nothing wrong then after a few minutes they let him go on his way. All he did is give them a reason to arrest him.

A lot of these reactions are not thought through. It’s not about accountability as much as it just an observation. Withdrawals can also spawn in some negatives.

@@thedave1771 Yeah, especially when it's outside the current jurisdiction or out of state. I've known people that had out of state warrants that took months to get migrated all the way to the jurisdiction of the perp's physical location.

Easy, as they said in the video he DIDN’T have one when he was released. He had a court date the day after he was released for a SEPARATE charge and he didn’t show up so a bench warrant was issued. They don’t keep you in jail just because you happen to have a court date coming up that you might not show up too, that’s not how it works 🤦🏻♀️

I've been stopped by police officers all over the world incl Florida New York, Mexico, Sweden Thailand, NZ & here in Australia, never had a problem, I'm always polite, & compliant never been detained after answering their questions without any attitude. I am a big stocky 6'6" white guy, I know if I am angry or aggressive I could be quite threatening. But I'm not and the police have always thanked me for my co-operation.

Under NM 30-8-1 he would have to be interfering with the exercise and enjoyment of public rights, including the right to use public property or injurious to public health, safety, morals, or welfare. None of that applies to a man out by himself not bothering anyone. This wasn't a reasonable detainment because it did not appear he was committing a crime or was about to. If I call in to report someone walking down the sidewalk because they have blue hair the responding officer doesn't have some sort of super power to detain them just because I happened to call 9-1-1.
