ERRATA: 38:00 During the Battleshock Tests, the footage of the Cultists and Legionaries rolls were accidentally swapped in the editing process. To reiterate, you pass (and are safe) by rolling ABOVE your leadership value, and fail (become battleshocked) by rolling UNDER your leadership. The two "Twin Linked" rerolls on the Flying Hive Tyrants weapons were performed incorrectly. The entire roll is not considered "the attack", each individual dice is considered a unique attack. You can decide whether to reroll for each individual dice. Why the rules writers didn't just say "Twin Linked: re-roll failed wound rolls" is beyond me. Why write 7 words when 100 will do, eh? Regarding the feel no pain, you have to roll for each failed save separately right? Because if you rolled two successful 6+ against the first failed save then it technically would have only killed one legionary. 56:45

Slight clarification on Twin-Linked, it does not require you to re-roll all wounds. The wording states "Each time an attack is made with such a weapon, you can re-roll that attack's wound roll." When attacking with a weapon, each dice is considered its own attack, and rolling them all together is referred to as fast rolling. That means that you only need to re-roll the failed wound rolls, however the rule does state that it can be any wound roll, not just failed ones, which is intended to leave open the option to re-roll a successful wound if you're looking instead for a critical wound for the sake of devastating wounds. Honestly fast rolling probably deserved its own clarification, it's often taken for granted by people because its done so often that it muddies interpretations of the rules, even with experienced players it seems. For instance you shouldn't fast roll when making feel no pain rolls for several models, as it needs to be clear before you roll which dice are for which model. Also the rules are pretty unambiguous when it comes to "when a model is leading a unit". The rulebook clarifies that once a character in a combined unit loses its bodyguard it is no longer considered a combined unit and the character and bodyguard are considered separate units from that point forward, therefore any abilities that specify "when this model is leading a unit" are no longer usable once the bodyguards have been destroyed.

This is easily the best video I’ve found breaking it down for someone like me who really struggles to learn by just reading a text book.

Even though I don't play or collect 40K myself, I very much appreciate the start section, because the statements there are applicable for almost any wargame: You don't need a lot of models for your first game. You also don't need to create your force by any "balanced gameplay" rules, it's more important to get the gist of the game first. And finally, basically anything can function as a playing surface and terrain. Just use the dining table, throw some books, pencils, bottles, cans, etc. on it and start having fun. Thanks for showing some of the "improvised first terrain", I think it really sells the point.

Each time an attack is made with such a weapon, you can re-roll that attack's Wound roll." that means you can re-roll successful wound rolls to fish for critical wounds if you so desire.

Where it says 're-roll a Wound roll of 1' for example, it still means all the 1s you have rolled because each attack can use that rule separately.

This video is greatly detailed but simple. I do have to say though for new players: "I'm sure soon enough, the codex for your army of choice will get released soon" is very likely untrue. There are 21 armies/codeces to release. After 4 months we got 2. At next year June, 9 are supposed to be released. If your amry is not in one of the 9 in the roadmap, it could take 18+ months to release. The last armies in 9th had a couple of months to play with their codex.

One quick thing to mention for mortal wounds is that they can be saved via a feel-no-pain ability like when the hazardous test was failed the master of possession could use the feel no pain ability to try and ignore the 3 mortal wounds

There are some things I’m liking in the 10th addition rules compared to 9th. It looks like a lot of stuff have been simplified or condensed for armies. Still wish alternating activation was a thing. Also wish all the codexes closer together, found it odd to have a late 9th for Tyranids and then a new 10th codex so soon afterwards.

OK... I am about at 36:26 ... well here a newcomer!!! For two years I am looking videos and tutorials to get a grip on the game (don't have books yet to read)... I admit that it's the first time I understood something and also the first time I did not close the video at the 5 minutes disgusted by how the things are done... Now after said that you accomplished what noone did before...I still have to say that I still can't continue to see the rest of the video because I have a headache... No it's not that what you say (the rules) are difficult, no... It's that they are too many and they usually look hidden, I mean how do you know ow this and that and remember the third and don't forget the forth... Common I just want to have some strategic fun with my monies not look at tables all the time amd calculate and try to think if I forgot something in the process like a weird ability or buff or what ever... Common this is not fun... But at least you explained the basics of how the system works , u like countless others that blabbing around by not getting through to you a single piece of information... a better way to explain the fight phase is to say it as it is and split it up. we got Fight First and normal fight and when you charge you gain fight first for that turn. then you need to also remember that the opponent goes first. so we take the fight first models first, so the ones who charge, if the opponent had fight first rule, then it would be the opponent who would go first. then it is the normal fight, also starting with the opponent.

hey Guy, you forgott to take a 6+ feel no pain on the mortal wounds from your first missed hazardous test ^^ also, mistake on the feel no pain against the swarmlord attacks there, you have to roll 3 dice for each attack separatly since the damage from each attack does not spill and in this case you have to go 1by1 and ignore the fast dice rolling recommendations (2x3 dice in this case), meaning, if you manage to save the first attack on a marine with 2 results of a 6 you will only get 1 damage from that attack, then the next attack must also be allocated to the now damaged marine that survived the first attack with 1 wound remaining, so again 3 dice for a 6+ feel no pain. in this case whatever you throw with your dice, the damage wont spill over to your 2nd marine and he would not lose any wounds

As witnessed in this video, when you play 40k, sometimes a model's movement is juuuuust not far enough for it to set up in an easy way. Often times the player doing the moving does indeed get a few extra fractions of an inch for their unit by moving their models up too far. This video shows it at 24:26 when the termagants move up over a ring of rocks. The tape measure clearly shows the lead termagant's base being set down flush on the ground, after the rocks- 1/2" ahead of the end of the tape. In friendly games this sort of thing is usually fine. In big tournaments, letting this slide can actually net your opponent an advantage, so you might want to discuss what to do in these situations amicably with your opponent before the game begins.

With all the hype around the Space Marine 2 video game release I decided to do some research into 40k as I've always had somewhat of a curiosity since I saw it at the local game store as a kid buying MTG cards. I am absolutely dying laughing at the fact through my short amount research I found that a starter set would cost me $210 and the first tutorial video I found is an hour long 😂.
