I'm studying for my nursing degree with goals to become a nurse-midwife and watching your video reminds me of why I am so passionate about midwifery, I want to make the birthing process as empowering for women as much as I can! I am so sorry you had such a traumatizing experience with an OB, birth can be a really empowering experience or a traumatizing one. I think the best thing any provider can do is to actually listen and spend time with their patients and work to meet their patients needs.

I feel like midwives get more involved in the cares of the pacients and through the process of pregancy (without detracting from the work that doctors do)... We here in chile are trying to change the way children are born, cause statistically this is the country with the most violence in childbirth in the world, many many women have bad experiences here especially women that can't pay the hospital and are treated for free... that's so sad so I decided to study Obstetricia y Puericultura and in this time that I've been studying it I realized that is my vocation ❤... Well my mom didn't want me to cause she also had bad experiences and not just her, many woman think that midwives are bad, but with this I really really wanna change the way people are born, the way mothers are treated, and all this concept of violence that people have about us. I hope that one day all children will be born with dignity ❤ #respecteddelivery

I respected his work but it didnt feel as personal as I wouldve liked. He told me not to worry about strep b, I had polyhydramnios which the nurses told me when I got induced.. I had no idea of that either. I felt like I wasnt apart of my own health and pregnancy honestly. I hope I can get a midwife this time around and have a better experience!

I had a very similar experience with a ob/gyn. I was given next to zero information. When my water broke and I was admitted into the hospital, it was like being hell. I was given no choice about anything, they acted bothered when I would ask questions, and there was definitely choices they made that I wish they didn't. I was so upset because I felt like the situation I was put in made me such a horrible emotional mess that I couldn't even enjoy my baby until he was closer to one and when I asked for help they told me that I'll get over it. It's definitely why I chose midwives and a home birth for this pregnancy.

I've had 2 pregnancies, first with an obgyn for the visits, which was great, I always had plenty of time with her and all my questions answered, but then it was a male Dr on call for my delivery and I wanted a female so a midwife delivered my son, but the experience with her was great. Since I had a great experience with her, I decided to go with a midwife for my entire 2nd pregnancy. We ended up moving out of state a month before I was due, and so I was seen at 2 different hospitals, but at both hospitals it was a team of midwives, for example maybe 5 or 6 of them and at any time you can have one of them with an appt with you or deliver you. I was dissapointed in that since I also wanted that one on one care with the same midwife for the entire thing. the midwives were fine, mine were also very informative and cared about other stuff like diet etc. my biggest turn off with them is many of them come off as being very judgemental. I was wanting to try to nurse, but decided I wouldn't be too hard on myself if I had to formula feed, and usually got a bad reaction or very pushy comments from the midwives. they also didn't like that I planned on getting the epidural. at the hospital I used for the last month of my pregnancy I only got one visit with the midwife before going into labour the next week. that midwife at my appt was very informative, she asked about my first labour and delivery, how long it took, how far I lived, etc, and took that into consideration for the timeframe to come in this time after contractions start. she said how far apart for how many minutes, and she said if I'm unsure at all whether it's time to come in i can call their on call number (it would be one of the midwives of the team who will answer). the next week when I started having contractions, I called when I felt like they were getting closer but not for the length of time they suggested, so I called the on call midwife. it was a midwife I had not met yet, and she was so rushed with me and my question it was strange, I told her according to my app and what I could tell, my contractions were timing x minutes apart for x ant of time with one or two contractions that were 7 minutes apart. She said I need to wait till they were more consistent and I should labour at home and take a hot shower, she didn't ask if it was my 2nd pregnancy, how far I lived, etc, but I took her word and waited. mind you. during that time the contractions were too painful to talk through, but I called in between contractions so she didn't hear my discomfort. I showered, and immediately after I got out my contractions intensified. I thought I needed to use the toilet before we left to the hospital, but as soon as I sat and pushed I realized I was crowning. I thank God that my husband and his family were there to help me or I would have delivered my son in the toilet alone. he was born within a minute or two of when I sat on the toilet, 20 minutes after I hung up with the midwife, on the bathroom floor (caught by my MIL). when I finally arrived at the hospital almost an hour after that, I met the midwife who had recommended I stay home, and she comically said she couldn't tell I was that close to delivering since I "sounded so calm". that was pretty irresponsible to give me advice to stay home off that. my aftercare with the midwives was good, and I did receive more help with breastfeeding (but also some guilt trips when I considered quitting from such painful and bleeding nipples). overall, I'm not sure what I will do with my 3rd baby, I'm currently pregnant, but I thought I'd share my experience for others

Thank you so much for this video. I've had so many concerns about the doctor. Obviously testing to check me &my baby's health is neccessary, but I'm deeply burdened with the fact of having to do a pelvic exam &things along the nature of spreading my legs to anyone other than my partner. That is more painful than any pain I could physically encounter. Emotional damage is long term as physical wounds will heal. So I'm REALLY seeking a healthcare provider who will take this into consideration &provide me with a natural, unobstrusive birth care.

This is my first pregnancy. I have Midwife already that I was seeing for regular gynecology appointments. I was a little worried on how it was going to be. My Mother saw a midwife that pretty much did all the deliveries. My little sister was the only one she saw a doctor with. It was horrific. The doctor at one point was saying she was breached and the next he was saying she was head first. We found out that she was head first her feet by her head her right arm between her legs and her left arm around her head and feet and the abilical cord wrapped around her throat. For both me and my little sister we were taken away the moment we were born. So My mom had more time with her first child which is my big sister than she did with me. Luckily there was nothing wrong with me but because of extra test they had to do to make sure I was okay due to my Mom refusing them to take the ambiotic fluid for testing. So for I was returned to her after an hour or two. While my little sister had a torn diaphragm and was rushed onto a helicopter and rushed to Hershey Medical Center in Harrisburg PA. Its was terrifying no one told my Mother for 6 whole hours where my little sister was and what was going on. She didn't even have a name yet. Since my Mom had a C-section she had to stay in the hospital for 3 days before being able to drive out and see my sister. They had her on feeding tubes, breathing tube, everything. My Mother had to fight with them to let her breast feed my little sister cause she wasn't gaining weight and she would vomit the what they were feeding her. But My Mom made the right call and after 2 weeks of being with her in the hospital she was getting healthier and gaining weight. I know already I have a high risk of my child getting spinal bifida due to a low folic acid count and I have a weak heart due to a failed suicide attempt in March. Thankfully I wasn't pregnant during that time and I have my first appointment next Wednesday. I am worried how things are going to go during delivery and is debating whether or not I should suggest to my Midwife to test for spinal bifida during pregnancy. Doesn't that put you for higher risk of miscarriage? like I said this is my first pregnancy and I am very worried about how things are going to go and to have them wisk the baby away right away and me not know what is going on if something is wrong.
@MarlaAycho7 жыл бұрын

omg when I saw your reply I was crying. This the second time a youtuber commented on my comments and gah I am emotional normally so being hormonal just heightens it. That attempt was stupid and a bad idea. I've been a heart patient since six months old. I still have my childhood heart doctor and I have a stent and my heart doctor wants to see me to check on my leaky heart valve since it was an adult heart doctor that caught it not him cause I only see my childhood one once a year. In hindsight I should have seen him after I got out of the mental hospital cause I felt like there was something wrong with my heart for the entire month I was in there and they wouldn't listen to me I had to tell them that I was a heart patient cause the nurse was like "you are too young for heart problems" I met a 5 year old, a child, that had open heart surgery what does age have to do with you health problems. you either have them or don't you don't just get old and get them it develops over time. I had to explain to her that despite of having anxiety, ptsd and depression I do have physical health issues and that its bullshit that a mental health unit In a hospital doesn't look up those records and don't care to at least check. And they wanted to do electric shock therapy which I didn't want and I tricked them the first two weeks for them to check my heart before getting it despite having no intentions to get it. when I told them I didn't want it they stopped sending cardiologist to see me. Obviously there is somethin wrong with the patient if they are willing to lie and make deals just to see someone for their heart cause you wont. They believed it was a panic attack or muscle strain from pacing the halls out of boredom and some kind of exercise. Despite having a severly low blood pressure when, when you exercise you are suppose to have a slightly raised blood pressure. Unfortunately I had to reschedule my heart doctor cause I have my first appointment Wednesday morning and he wants to see me Wednesday morning I cant go to Harrisburg and still make my first appointment and I cant reschedule my appointment with my midwife cause I wont get in for another month and that's too long without a blood test and no prenatal vitamins

Was John okay at birth being pulled out by vaccuum? My experience with the OB was identical. Very impersonal, quick in and out. I never felt like they actually cared about me or my child. I was given cytotec because I had high blood pressure at 39.5 weeks and went into labor 6 hours after one dose. They made me push right after reaching 10 cm but I was SO numb from my epidural I had gotten so early I literally couldn't feel a thing. OB got inpatient, shift was ending so she rushed in claiming "his shoulders were too broad" even though she hadn't been there for any of the pushing. Stupidly I consented to a c section. My son came out not breathing and needed some help but luckily after a few min was fine. I still cry about it because I was SO out of it and fell asleep so didn't get to hold him for like 2 hours. I'm SO upset about it because I feel like my labor was handled so badly. Almost 26 w and with midwives hoping for a VBAC. My experience so far has been SO much better. I'm so upset about my first experience I so badly want to experience birth the way it was intended. Stay well Marla!

For the record, my in hospital experience with a midwife was nothing near yours… I WISH!!! My hospital is way more hands off with a midwife, but she didn’t show up till just before birth. And she doesn’t allow me to opt out of tests and procedures. Still way better than my OB/Gyn births, but not at all the same as yours. I’m looking at an unassisted birth this time, possibly. Oh wow I have an OBGYN and my doc was always on time for appointments. My appointment would be at 2pm for example and the latest he's ever had me is 2:05 pm. But what's 5 minutes? and I don't even think it was 5 minutes (think it was more like 2 or 3) and the reason he delayed at all was because my appointment was technically before hours. I'd still consider that on time. And my doctor always spends as much time with me as I need. I've never actually needed more than 15 minutes per appointment (but that might have to do with the fact that I'm in the medical field so don't need most things explained to me and for a first time mom I actually don't have many questions at all). ANd my doctor stops accepting patients after a certain amount, a lot of doctors in many specialties don't restrict patients, my cardiologist actually didn't and that was the only time I've ever in my life had to wait more than 15 minutes (My GP is either on time or up to 15 minutes late) for my scheduled appointment. I had to wait well over 3 hours.

How does midwifery work with insurance companies?
@MarlaAycho5 жыл бұрын
Not sure about the rest of the world but on Canada, midwives are covered under OHIP so it is free for us :)
@exitpursued66904 жыл бұрын
I'm going through a midwife-run birth center in the US. I qualified for pregnancy medicaid, and that covers the cost of the birth center. They are also networked with several major insurance companies, so it would be covered just like OB/GYN and hospital care! Birth centers are commonly covered by insurance. Not sure if you hire a midwife for a home birth.

Doulas are not covered but midwives are. At least if they are medically trained- in my area there is Midwifery Boca owned by two medical nurses turned midwives and they work with the hospitals and an OB GYN on staff and their care is covered. Maybe it is because they were nurses first and work with hospitals but either way insurance does cover so worth doing the research but even if your insurance does not cover or cover fully their care is much cheaper overall that it would still be worth having one.
