You can also launch you missile to intercept the enemy one. Great thing to outplay A-10/A-6/Su-25/AMX players with all-aspect missiles.

It is good to note that not all rockets are equal, as some seem to attract IR missiles easier. Remember to drop your AB the instant you see a missile tracking towards you or else your flares/rockets will be next to worthless.

I have to admit, those are the best cannons in game. MiG-19S pre all aspect missiles era, was such a joy to just throw into a dogfight

Something worth noting about the flight performance is that I generally find it best to leave the throttle on afterburner outside of cruising and emergency deceleration and instead manage airspeed with airbrake alone, even in a dive. The throttle response of the engines is incredibly slow and they can take over 6 seconds to start producing real power again after idling, and this can get you killed in a dogfight as it just isn’t fast enough to keep you in your ideal speed range while turning and throttling up from idle, leading you dropping into the near-stall zone where it turns poorly and struggles to regain energy without leveling out

I still find it odd that Gaijin chose to add the one-off PT instead of a regular MiG-19P, many were modified late in their service life to carry R-3 missiles, mainly in foreign service. In game, personally I enjoy the MiG-19S more, maybe because it's the one I have fully upgraded...

The MiG 19 is probably the best fighter for br in the German tech tree. I consistently got aces with it, the only issue is the ammo

Great jet, had it when it was top tier. Back in the good old days, missiles had a G overload so they couldnt be fired while turning... or a few seconds after you straightened out... and had to spool up for several very long seconds... Happy they tweaked missiles.

If this plane had R-3R's and maybe flares, it would be my favourite jet in the game. But I have to settle for the MiG-21.

The MiG-19 family is one of my personal favorites, and it tends to get overlooked as the middle child between the MiG-15/17 and the MiG-21. It's a really cool plane, and the various versions provide endless intrigue. My favorite has to be the Nanchang Q-5 - the apex of the MiG-19's legacy. I'd love to see you review the various Q-5s (if you haven't already). While it may not have as many weapon options, I think the Q-5 (early) looks the best. Also glad to hear another person on board with adding more 1st generation beam-riding missiles! Justice for the K-5!

what isnt mentioned while a great plane to grind the rest of the soviet high tier it suffers from br compression and facing all aspect missiles and some rear high g missiles almost requiring you to take the rockets for flares.

It's important to mention, this plane has a very similar flight model (since Q-5 and the A-5 are both based on the Mig 19) to those aircraft. I learned how to fly the A-5 by grinding through this plane.

The mig-19 is the prime example of BR compression lol it does the same as a 9.3 it did when it was 9.7, except that it can now club helpless 8.3s.

I genuinely don't get why the snail hasn't done volumetric afterburner flames yet. Like, this was something Project Aces was able to do in 2004.

About the ugly afterburners - its *really* easy to fix. You can add a couple lines and an appropriate image file to a user skin to replace the flames with much nicer-looking (and higher-resolution) burners.

I've seen a mig-19 cockpit in person, but it was an earlier model - but I've seen photos of the cockpits that had the radar scope, and the one in-game doesn't match.

Everyone is saying the Pl2 isn't a very good missile but it has basically doubled my kd since unlocking it. Also yes I think its very frustrating that the radar doen't exist in cockpit mode.

The Cheetah of the sky. Today I learnt that the PT ver is just a single proto design. Learn something new everyday. BTW I too noticed that in DCS there's a radar scope in the cockpit but not here, similar to what you said in the cockpit section. Do you report these issues? I've reported about the Tornado's cockpit bug too, the lever that sweeps the wings is inverted, when swinging the wings back the lever goes to the 25' mark, and when swinging the wings forward the lever goes back to 75' mark. Still Gaijin hasn't acknowledged it in my Community bug reports.

Just a few things i wanna mention First, i noticed you said "flat 1 circle rate fights" i assume you meant either a flat 1c I do think the MiG-19 is one of the best rate fighters at its br even in a flat overlapping 2 circle, my advice is to never get below 600kph Especially in sim, below 600 kph it tends to feel "floaty" on its controls

It honestly outrates anything in its BR range except the MiG-19S, and it's even competitive against the F-5E, which is crazy to me.

You can lock a missile, especially that annoying AIM-9L with your R-3S. R-3S engine has a greater heat signature than your engines, so AIM-9L you lock the missile instead, but i would still recommend cutting your WEP and turning away immediately after launch.

yup not a fan of the cannons on this plane way t omany times has my shells let the enemy fly through my shoots and the R-3S AAM not so great either and seems like the Red Tops are better than these are now that they got a little bit of a buff to them. Even though I already ground out this Russian Mig-19 now I am on it Again in the Chinese line to HAVE TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN and then what we have another one in the Italian line aswell

Still have quite the way to go to my own MiG-19 (the German S variant), but I haven't been overly eager to. It's a matter of taste, but I always found the 19 to be quite ugly, compared to the 15 or 17, or the 21. I might have to give her a try though. ;)
