@Rocketguy06 There is Titanium used on the hottest spots of this plain like leading edge of the wing and around engines, but mostly currageted SS with alcohol for cooling purposes, about 300 litters ;) Had the biggest and best radar for the time. Kinda AWAC on a cheap. Holds an unbeaten absolute flight altitude world record since 1977 of 123,520 ft. Fastest military jet that still in service. Operates in any climate and any(poor condition) airfields.

A few years later, on 31 August 1977, "Ye-266M" flown by MiG OKB Chief Test Pilot Alexander V. Fedotov, set the recognized absolute altitude record for a jet aircraft under its own power.He reached 37,650 metres (123,520 ft) at Podmoskovnoye, USSR in zoom climb (the absolute altitude is a different record than the sustained altitude in horizontal flight). (123,520 ft) !!

@GRATZIANI2002-What do you mean by "fuel drainage"? Do you mean that's the fuel-jettison pipe, and the dripping is just left-over fuel in the line? Or does the MiG-25 leak fuel while on the ground, like the SR-71? The SR-71 leaks because the metal fuel tanks shrink when they're cold, so they leak badly until the frame heats up. Is that what this is for? To drain fuel from inside the fuselage? Very interesting. I guess the high-speed exhaust would "suck" fluids out, "Bernoulli's Principle", etc.

Well, it was a pretty exciting experience. Almost like going with Branson or Bezos, but at only $20k it was a helluva lot cheaper!

@GRATZIANI2002 So when you start the engines, the flame doesn't ignite all around the ring at the same time? So extra fuel leaks from the parts that are not burning yet, until the flame spreads out all around the ring? And then the extra fuel drains from the back? But wouldn't it burn anyway if you just left it there? And don't understand...why would fuel filters drain? Someone else told me it was because the plane must be able to expand as it heats up or gains altitude.

@beergut111 in today's day and age there are hardly any planes that can hit mach 2.5, besides that this plane was quite something. it can almost go to space(123,520 ft), what other fighter/interceptor can do that? on top of that this plane holds like 29 records. and it was built to survive and EMP from a Nuke.

One interesting thing about the MiG 25 - it didn't use integrated circuits, but it did use vacuum tubes. Old and outdated, but in the event of a nuclear situation, the electro magnetic pulse would cause our planes to fall out of the sky, so to speak, while the MiG would just keep trucking along. And the beast is heavy, stainless steel, not aluminum or titanium. If you look closely at the area just by my left shoulder (before the canopy is lowered), you will note a rather poor Bondo job.

@vonkaunaz the F15 is the only fighter in the world that's never been shot down. The mig is a ok plane but it cant sustain it's speed. Im a retired usaf pilot, i know what im talking about.

can you still breathe inside the plane? since americans use a suit like above 50,000 feet. and they have to pre breathe pure oxygen for an hour

@konischev it can go over mach 2.5 but it cant maintain it....the mig25 going over mach 2.5 causes permanent damage to the engines. They both need replaced, so it can go really fast, but only for a short time.

Does anyone know what's up with the stuff bleeding from between the tailpipes at :33? It catches fire like it's fuel or something, but why is it leaking fuel? I think I've heard something about fuel being pumped through the walls of the jet pipe to cool it. I know the SR-71 (and maybe the MiG-25 too) run fuel through the skin of the aircraft to cool the skin when air friction heats it. In any case, I wonder if it's supposed to leak like that....

@efast00 That is correct, and it was flown back home many a time. I thank the Russians for many things. Titanium is one of them. Hey, we got Russian Titanium for our aircraft, the USSR got DEC computers to run their industrial equipment.

@beergut111 in college waiting to become an officer and then hopefully get shipped off to flight school. and Russia doesn't really fall short or fail, i watched and read and still read all their stuff on their air force. russia is more known to make cheap but effective jets. thats why they have so many customers. and they still believe in making planes more maneuverable than others for dog-fighting(the whole Suikhoi family, including the new su-35)..kinda anxious to see what Pak-Fa can do.

@beergut111 what do you mean it cant sustain its speed?
@tomcline5631
@tomcline5631 3 жыл бұрын
Proven fact. When one these planes was pushed to it maximum speed of about Mach 3.1 when it landed the engines would have to be pulled... not for rebuilding,but straight to the scrap pile!! It is such a tough machine, it's airframe can withstand the speed which destroyed it's own engines!!! It could sustain a very high speed but no where close to it maximum speed. The Soviets just didn't have the metallurgy for their engines. Hell we had bought so much of their titanium at the time,that they had to use stainless steel for a lot of the airframe and skins of this plane to withstand aerodynamic heating!!

@konischev i know you wanna defend you plane, but every fighter the USA has for the last 30 years does a minimum of mach 2.5......and the F104 went to 128,000 ft..........in 1962. the mig25 was a great fighter plane, but it came too late to be effective.
@vonkaunaz

@beergut111 : And from what source did you get such mindless crap? It was as advanced, capable and lethal to deal with whatever USAF flying object violating Soviet air space. And that´s not all: the "obsolete" plane you are referring to, in the hands of a few Iraqi pilots, flying only a few missions, in an environment of complete numerical superiority of the USAF and Co. during the first Gulf War in 1991, managed to smoke 2 "superior" U.S. Hornets. Both American pilots NEVER knew what hit them.

@Rocketguy06 no they wouldnt fall outta the sky. our planes, and everything else is shielded by special ceramic filters......tubes are more resistant because they can take a plate voltage of over 100 volts......circuits only take about volt. So the USA had to invent technology to prevent this.
