You can definitely see why having an F-35 guiding missiles fired by gen 4 aircraft would be so effective. Gen 4 can fire and retreat and the F-35 can stay around 20-30 miles out from target and provide those missiles with guidance until they go pitbull
@martinpalmer62032 жыл бұрын
No it can't because IRST and electro-optical passive systems will detect the F35 at that range, followed shortly after by IR or dual mode missiles launched at the F35... What you are more likely to see dominating the future are stealthy unmanned drones datalinked to manned aircraft, with the drones doing the heavy lifting, armed and providing targeting to the manned aircraft. No need to risk perfectly good pilots in aircraft anymore.
@mikeck46092 жыл бұрын
@@martinpalmer6203 no...they wont. IRST requires the operator to know generally where the aircraft is- and with at frontal aspect are very short ranged. Additionally, you cant target anything with them so you cant use it to guide a weapon. Secondly, i don't know what "passive system" you think is going to detect an F-35 with its AESA radar as AESA radars aren't detectable by RWR systems due to the extremely low level of output on multiple changing frequencies. look at the reports from Red Flag where the best western Gen 4 and 4.5 fighters have little to no success is locating (let alone killing) F-35s. The tactic i just mentioned is one being incorporated by NATO forces to facilitate the use of gen 4 platforms in a future Gen 5 fight
@TheSilverwolf10012 жыл бұрын
I will have to agree IRST is only useful if you have a general idea of where the target is and in a frontal aspect. As well the range is only really effective between 60-30 miles depending on the circumstances. The F-35 would’ve already locked onto you at those ranges and have F15EX’s sling like 14 amraams per craft. If the Russian’s have an AWACS then yes. Although granteed it’d be an AWACS VS AWACS situation. Whoever has more missiles wins. Which is the Missile truck. Tbh the MIG31 is by far the best at BVR even without IRST because of its huge radar. You would need to basically wild weasel it or send F-22.
@mikeck46092 жыл бұрын
@@TheSilverwolf1001 I’m not sure a Russian mainstay (awacs) would detect an F-35 at the 70-100 miles range they would have to be in order to not be in the battle zone. US AWACS routinely detects and tracks at 100’s of miles And yeah, I wouldn’t want to be the guy in an F-16, 15 or 18 that had to attack an Mig-31 for sure, but remember that fighters don’t operate alone. They operate as part of a larger system with coordinates attacks and ECM capabilities operating along side. While the Mig is flying towards you and me readying his missles, the US AWACS is directing 2 F-15s in intercepting the Mig who will never see them coming. But hey….the Mig-31 is DAMNED good at what it’s designed to do: intercept bombers and attack aircraft.

It is interesting that 3 days ago I watched a very long interview with a Ukrainian MiG-29 fighter pilot "Juice" who just before that returned from the USA where he spoke to congressmen. He told everything that you visualized in this video. He talked about the weak radar and that every mission is suicide. There he said that the real chance to shoot down a Russian plane is to lure it to Ukrainian SAM. The Americans were very surprised and only after these explanations agreed to draft a bill on training Ukrainians on American planes. Unfortunately, the decision on training has not been made yet. Not even selected type of aircraft. In his opinion, Ukraine needs at least 50 aircraft. The real option, given the availability of such a number for a short time, is the F-16 block 50/52. The training of already experienced pilots is from 3 to 6 months. He also added that many pilots returned to the army and currently there are more pilots than planes. Grim Reapers I will be grateful if you make a video of how already Ukrainian F-16 can oppose Russian planes at the front. By the way, Russian aviation has not flown deep into Ukraine for more than 3 months. The maximum is a flight over the front line. They increasingly use the Su-25. NASAMS already exists in Ukraine. There are a lot of Stingers. Soon there will be Avengers. It is interesting to see how all this will work in the complex.

NASAMS are in DCS, and they are, to put it simply a joke. An avenger is just a bunch of stinger launchers on a humvee and modern Russian ECM seems to almost negate stingers (most kills come from AAA). And all of this is ignoring the fact that the VKS has stand-off weapons so they simply do not need to actually enter ukr airspace (except for CAS missions). Which means that unless Ukraine manages to get their hands on an S-400 (which is virtually impossible) they will continue to have no control over their skies.

In a sterile environment the radar advantage is dominating, but that is nothing like the situation in Ukraine. I have a few ideas that would both level the playing field and be a bit more realistic situation for a fight like this. You could try using a SAM site on either side to enforce a ceiling over the playing area, forcing aircraft to stay low, including the Russians as they are speculated to have difficulties with IFF across different units. You could also sprinkle a few randomly positioned MANPADS in at the rear on both sides that make overextending risky. And while Ukraine is reasonably flat, the terrain is a bit pronounced in certain spots, having some small snakes running through it that are usually about 50 - 100 meters lower which can provide temporary cover. (EDIT: try google maps in terrain view) Finally you can also think of a way to get notified if a russian plane flies over or close to a population center, but that may be seen as a bit more cheaty. I like the content you put out and hope you guys can make this work!

Hey Cap, did you see the article and picture of the Ukrainians digging up an intact R-77-1 that either failed to explode or the less likely option of voluntarily being released off of a Russian jet? I'm betting there are a bunch of engineers from the US and other NATO countries in an undisclosed location in Europe dissecting it right now. They surely had an export version dissected before, but this may (?) be the first one they will be able to fully reverse-engineer directly from Russia. To know the absolute specific range and possible electronic countermeasures and kinematics is a pretty large advantage going forward for all NATO jets.

The chance they’ll be able to reverse engineer it is still pretty good imo, at the very least they can use the missile frame/dimensions and test kinematic performance if nothing else. Even if they can’t fully refurbish this particular missile, I think they’ll be able to pull something from it.

Ukrainians would never go 2 on 2. Figure out the most likely contest Ukrainian pilots would consider. How much of a numerical advantage is enough to lure them into a fight?
@navarxos862 жыл бұрын
In term of pure numbers though the Russians would probably have the advantage. After all when you take off as a Ukrainian you don't know how many rus fighters are flying radars off on holding patterns outside the country. Suggestion for a follow-up to this video. Keep the same jets, but emulate the Ukrainian and Russian territory within the current dynamic. First, I'd expand the "in-bounds area" of the map a little bit, and then draw a rough outline of the eastern UA/Russian borderline. On the Russian side of the border, create a relatively dense line of short-range radar sites, but for experiment purposes, only allow those sites enough range to hit enemy jets that get really close to the RU border. This seems to be what's effectively occurring within this conflict, as we're not hearing about long-range RU radar SAM sites reaching far into Ukraine. Meanwhile, within the Ukrainian border, set up about 30% of your marked airspace as RU friendly and 70% as AU friendly. In your respective friendly air spaces, add one to three short-range radar-seeking mobile SAM units spread out equally within the respective territory and then scatter one MANPAD at random points on the map (changing the SAM sites for both sides each round ideally). Place the MANPADS about one stationed every ~10-15 miles by both longitude and latitude (I don't want to say use square mileage as the metric, but rather more like a grid of MANPADS that come no closer than 10-15 miles from each other in any given direction). This should negate the safety of the superior jets and emulate the current war situation, as you will need to stay relatively low and your situational awareness will drop significantly as to your highest threat at any given moment. Let's see how those changes affect the duel and it would be really interesting if you're able to get DCS to mimic the real world. : )

Meanwhile the Navy had to move all sailors from one of its top aircraft carriers cus there was half a dozen suicides on the ship cus morale is so low...wake up to reality bud, it's the U.S. military that's in complete disrepair. Russia's military is fine compared to the pitiable state of the U.S.

@@AB-ng7go The US military has tons of problems with officers having been insulated from their bad decisions while enlisted people, who do the actual work, are treated as scapegoats or worthless. That's a completely separate issue from cardboard ERA on Russian tanks, barely-post-WWII reserves being called up, troops being stationed in the Exclusion Zone with no preparation for what that means, etc. Basically the US military suffers from too much money and generals capable of insulating themselves from consequence and the Russian military suffers from too little money and generals capable of insulating themselves from consequence. Of the two, the US military is in a ridiculously better situation. Like... even as shameful as the carrier (and that piece of shit top NCO telling them to suck it up) situation is.... the US still has NINE other supercarriers working (not counting the Ford because it's gonna be years before it's actually operational). Meanwhile, Russia's only carrier, which is a jumped up cruiser and also carries EXTREMELY limited fighters, is doing what now? Oh right yet another refit because every time it leaves port tugs have to bring it back. Both militaries are very fucked up in different ways, the Russian's military is vastly more fucked up on a very quantifiable level.

I watch this for fun - it's so funny how seriously that guy who calls himself "Cap" takes all this - he is literally playing a game. The way he speaks is hilarious. "I. Am. Getting INNN. To the cockpit. Simba, take off. I. Am. Now. In. A. Plane. Simba, do something. I. Am. In. Control." It's such a bizarre way to speak, and so full of ego. Two of my immediate family are pilots, and nobody talks like he does, in his pretty funny attempt to pretend to be a pilot. It's hilarious to see him think he is actually capable of flying a plane.

You know? I find their videos very entertaining. I’ve enjoyed them for a long time. Cap is very organized. He also explains very well what he’s doing. He also works very hard on producing these. It’s not easy. I’ve never understood why people take the time to shit on someone when you can just move on to a star wars kid or David after dentist video. If you don’t like it, piss off! The Reapers rule!

So Catfish....is your comment something that is useful, or is it only criticism and more-or-less veiled insults?

@@Name-ps9fx Just insults - as that is all that is deserved from this comedian who pretends his game is real life. Have a nice day.
