Ive read that they started with the wing, to create the perfect fighter aircraft wing. Then they added a lot of power, plus an off boresight missile system. Tradeoff was short range in comparison to other fighters, but in dogfights it was formidable.

The MiG-29 is a gorgeous plane, I love its lines & curves. Its sibling, the Su-27 is even better looking. To the untrained eye, they look the same, the obvious difference between them is that the Su-27 is a bigger plane. Super maneuverable too, these two. Definitely the best Russia has to offer.

How come there are panels over the air intakes . I can see it’s drawing air from those louvers on top of the wings but it doesn’t seem to me it’s enough volume for those engines .

The covers over the intakes are for operations from dirt or otherwise unimproved airfids, to prevent debris from being ingested. They open/close with the retration/extension of the landing gear. There are a series of about 7 or 8 louvers on top of the leading edge extension. Seems to give enough air.

If I remember correctly Migs over Moscow which you could fly either a Mig-291 it was $30,000, not including getting to moscow... check out incredible adventures website and see what i am talking about...
