Hey, obviously there isn’t a problem with this video but Nintendo has been extremely aggressive with illegally striking peoples videos over even mentioning these things, so do keep a look out.

I did a lot of research prior to doing this video. Seeing what videos have been left up and which ones have been pulled. I think I'm okay because I don't think Nintendo has jurisdiction over what's being shown here. Now could raw thrills come after me and be pissy that I featured their product as part of a potential piracy scenario? Probably but I don't think they'll do that. I'm also curious exactly what might happen with this video so it's not just a matter of getting the information out there and showing it off - I'm very curious as to if anybody will come after me and for what reason.

Their not doing it illegal unfortunately, and yes there is, your using a device legally deemed as a pirating device, so if nintendo comes after you. Your the only one to blame by using it

@@sirducksworthythe3rd842 Kindly read up before you go boot licking. I took 2 seconds to google this. The device's most illegal function is decrypting the data. Crytpographic keys are not copy rightable. Under DMCA law, reverse engineering for interoperability falls under fair use, particularly when the purpose is to create a transformative product that does not serve as a market substitute for the original. Owning these games and wanting to play them with emulations features arguably is a transformative experience.

@@GuyManley Technically speaking this device isn't decrypting anything. It is only copy data from the cart and writing it to the hard drive or into memory of the Deck. Any decryption is done by whatever emulator you are using (along with any files you gave it) after that. So this device is technically legal. Won't stop big N if they want to go after it of course. :shrug:

I just got mine in today, but I’m having some trouble 🥲 I plug it in to my laptop, and this red light comes on but it doesn’t show up in the connected devices on the computer 🥲 Any ideas?

I don't believe anything will show up until a cartridge is inserted...

@ I tried putting a cartridge in at first, and even then all I see is “local disk and google drive”, nothing that shows the dumper is connected aside from the red light

Combining this with the sd card adapter, using the deck, will i be able to scroll through my games or do i have to eject it every time to switch to another game?

@@jdrosario20 I'm walking on eggshells here, but if you were to release those games from the bonds of the cartridge, and use something like emulation station DE? Then you could indeed scroll and play

Alas, save files are ALWAYS stored on Switch's internal storage. Dumping the cart? Won't get you the save. :( You need a modded Switch for that.

Unfortunately, that's not something you can really tackle. If you have a situation like that? You'll need that hacked Switch to get those additional files.

I don't begrudge them what they're doing. That's why I chose and made this video very carefully. And the most legal way that I can imagine. And hopefully someone will benefit from it.

Unfortunately for Nintendo? Emulation itself is legal. Switch offers something new to the equation - encryption. You cannot play emulated Switch games legally. Even really as shown here. You have to violate the DMCA to break the encryption on the Switch and/or cartridge. Of course, in other countries? That law doesn't exist; just here in the USA. In order to access the game files on the cart, some decryption must be being done. To actually PLAY the game on a Deck? You need decryption keys (essentially stolen ones). So that's not really legal either. But if we look at the spirit of the law? This is as close as you are going to get to being legal.
