MIG Like TIG Revisited with the HTP Pro Pulse 200. In this video I give all the settings and techniques that I use when I'm doing the MIG like TIG technique on 1/8" and 3/16" mild steel.
This technique is not suggested for anything structural! It is specifically for aesthetics.
I'm using the standard synergic setting on my HTP Pro Pulse 200. It is not set to pulse MIG, just standard synergic.
All the settings I give here should be very close for your welder at home. You will need to fine tune for your machine. I suggest starting with the voltage set where mine is and adjusting your wire speed to tune it in.
Make sure your circling from top to bottom to keep from getting silica deposits trapped under your bead.

Gotta love that buttery smooth arc of the ProPulse 200 thats for dang sure! You should get yourself a ProPulse 300! I've played with the manual Double-Pulse, which has full adjust-ability, on C10 to easily get true spray transfer, and man o' man, the results are killer! MIG like TIG beads but *without* the worry of cold lap or lack of fusion! The ProPulse 300 is a beast! Great work on all your videos, keep it up!

@pcicraftsman8472
@pcicraftsman8472 Жыл бұрын
It really doesn't have too much to do with the welding technique or method. Mig welding in general is simply not for structural or anything important. Your gonna have to use tig for the important stuff. but most things for most people are definitely more than good with a mig welder ESPECIALLY AN HTP MIG WELDER 😃 tig mostly for very high end work. but man I can't get over how beautiful this machine welds. I never thought it's possible to do mig so pretty. keep in mind there is no other machine on earth that can mig or tig like HTP. You will not be able to do this even with the most expensive miller or Lincoln. HTP ARE THE SUPERIOR MASTERS OF WELDING.

I’m in the market for something around $1500 or less, if you could advise would be much appreciated. I will be doing some steal gates, stainless steel post and brackets .250 thick, staircases, and will fab some stands tables etc. Thanks in advance...Check out my stainless steel stair and railing work AGMdesign.net this all has to be tig welded unless those pulsed mig welders are magical? @@clearviewmarine no problem bud! The pulsed mig welders are awesome! But you're never going to have them look as nice as TIG. Ive only used the miller 350p, lincoln 350mp and my personal htp pro pulse 200 and 220. Theyre all expensive htps the cheapest at around $2200. It all comes down to practice, you can make then weld anything very nicely but it takes quite a bit of trial and error. Once you do though they are a huge time saver! And nice work dude! Thank you by the way
@clearviewmarine
@clearviewmarine 3 жыл бұрын
@@5thStreetFab I know I’ll never get as nice of a weld as tig with mig I am just trying to save some time like you said. On that note what settings do you think are most important to be able to achieve the stacked dimes look from a mig welder with less effort/practice... I was looking at both the HTP 220 and the Fronius 2200 but was hoping to spend less as I mentioned but it seems like anything less do not have the inductance setting and or actual voltage readout just a generic numeric setting. Am I wrong to think these are what makes the difference in stack dime look besides lots of practice? Can you weld like this with a less expensive welder without these settings, like a millermatic 211?
@5thStreetFab
@5thStreetFab 3 жыл бұрын
@@clearviewmarine ya you can definetly do it with the millermatics my buddies mostly use the 211 and 252s. Its just being able to run a low voltage with a lower wire speed. Inductance helps a lot with the spatter though! If you can find one with voltage wire speed and inductance it should be good to go!

Wait so is it the push pull method that causes weak penertration, or that he's welding cold?
@mrmidnight32
@mrmidnight32 2 жыл бұрын
@@Nikora.Biddle both. The method changes the input of the heat and filler the way it creates and holds the puddle. Welding is all about penetration, penetration is all about heat input. The reason it stacks so well onto the surface of the metal is because it’s, well stacking on the surface better than inside the base metal. Where the other method pushes the metal more into the metal giving it a “less pretty” top profile. There is ways you can properly penetrate and get a pretty bead with lots of experimentation. But clean uniform penetration is really all that matters at the end of the day.

@@mrmidnight32Thanks for replying. I've just started my Boilmaking/Fabrication apprenticeship and I love it. I like learning different techniques when welding. Most of the welders I've watched don't do any swirls or techniques, they just hold it steady and push and they get really nice patterns. Question, I was practing pushing and pulling and my boss told me not to pull, I didn't understand at the time why but now I do. It doesn't get as much penertration n it kinda sits on top. With that, why do most other welders always pull instead of push? Preference?

Newb here..was curious if its normal to have spatter issues using this technique with lower wfs and voltage than recomended if you have a "click" type voltage setting dial on the machine. Wfs is infinate so i can dial that down a tad from reccomended setting but as far as the voltage goes i only have so many options. I can get a reeeeally nice stack of dimes with this but seems like alot of spatter on the surrounding material after im finished with a pass compared to using normal settings.

It usually means you're wire speed is either too low or too high. Try adjusting that first and if it doesn't improve it could be a bad ground, too long of stick out, or your going too far back into the puddle. Hopefully one of these helps

@5th Street Fab can you show what you are using on your hand to keep your hand steady and planted? It looks like some type of steel mesh cloth that you're using which is a great idea to keep your hand steady and braced which is IMPERATIVE to get a look like this. If your hand moves off of this consistent angle or your stick out becomes too much it ends up looking like crap... I've found that my best looking welds were where my hand was literally LOCKED in place but still allows me to move down the piece. can you expand on what it is you use? Thanks man. Hey brotha. On your other mig like tig video the comments are turned off but i figured i'd bring the question here. At 5:39 you start welding an open corner and it looks like real time. Then there is a closeup that I'm guessing is slowed down so you can see the puddle. Reason i ask is because i'm trying to see how fast your hand is moving the gun. With the closeup it looks like you're moving slow, but in the real time version you are moving pretty quickly. So is 5:39 real time????

Amperage-When we select different values, the wire feeding speed and voltage will automatically match the welding chart built-in". Is it worth returning the welder because of that or does it not really make a difference? Although there is a dial for Amperage, Voltage and one for Inductance.

What makes this NOT for structural welding, the weaving of "e", and "o's", or just the fact that the settings are lower a level or two? If you were to do the weaving pattern and the settings were hotter, would it be good for structural then?
@5thStreetFab
@5thStreetFab 3 жыл бұрын
Because its too cold and doesnt penetrate very well. If you turn up your settings and use the same technique and move much quicker, you can get good penetration but it doesnt have the same look

Oh man this was so helpful. Just getting a nice view of that leisurely pace was a revelation. I must have my settings all goofy. I pull the trigger and its off to the races zipping that puddle along before it blows a hole. I now have a better picture in my mind as to how it should be.

Charles DaSilva most MIG welding is way faster this is just to get the stack of dimes look. If you're doing structural you'll want the settings much higher
@charlesmdasilva

Understood. I'll entertain myself and play around at the low and slow settings. From there I can always turn it up to full speed. It's good to have a wide range that you are familiar with I think.

Why shouldnt this be used for structural welds? is this type of welding not strong enough?
@5thStreetFab
@5thStreetFab 5 жыл бұрын
This technique just doesn't put the amps you need into the part. Because the technique is very slow that does help with slight penetration but generally you only get penetration on the toes and barely if any penetration into the root. It's just a step above silicon bronze

Finally I get it, it's a different technique for an outside corner joint compared to a fillet joint. And move faster for thinner metal. Right? Also love your little twirl at the end of a run. Looks like it works really well. BTW, I absolutely refuse to do any structural welds for anyone or anything while I am still learning.

Great video. I have been researching welding machines for 2 weeks. Need something for both steel and aluminum. Restoring 1936 Ford truck and building aluminum cabinets/drawers for a 16' race trailer. I almost pulled the trigger on a Miller Multimatic 215 with the Spoolmate 150 until I ran across the HTP Pro Pulse 200. What is your opinion on the HTP and comparison with Miller products?
@5thStreetFab

@@jfuqua72 that's a good point I don't know how long an inverter based machine will last but the same would be true of miller. A transformer machine I would expect 20+ years.
