The state of customer service in the UK is appalling, even at the best of times. The way I look at it is that they don’t want your money and your custom. Best to reward a business that actually makes an effort (hard to find these days). 👍

Moving back to the UK after living in the states for 10 years i was shocked at the lousy service and lack of interest. I know it can be a bit over the top in America where an old career waitress called Lulamae will spoon feed you while reciting the specials but it's preferable to a bored teenager acting hurt that you expected them to do their job.

Sorry mate. UK plc spiv land does not do hospitality well. We think we are all lords of the estate when we eat out and the employed folk are our servants. That is why they spit in our food. And worse.

Well, the "Americano" (hate that term) is watered-down espresso. Did they have those pump carafes full of coffee? As a former barista I'd need to know the setup to know how hot the coffee generally is and/or if it sits unheated for long stretches. If one pot was out I'd just ask you to wait while another one brewed hot. Or, I'd throw it in the microwave, with the milk. Please tell me you're not one of those precious "no microwave" people? Throwing one cup of coffee and some milk on the stove special for one customer is a pain in the ass. You better tip well regardless of their tipping culture & the not wanting cash? Wtf is that? I *hated* it when people got one fucking cup of coffee (1.50 American at the time) with a card.

Scott you know what your bigger problem was. Your accent. Not being disrespectful used to work for English American company in London. My mate from St Louis didn't like it when his nations travellers would front up and treat the English like they did Hospitality back home. You my friend are suffering from the last 3 decades of American tourists with the walk socks sandals and Hawaiian shirt rounded of by camera.
