Mighty Canadian Minebuster is one of three wooden roller coasters at Canada's Wonderland. Designed by Curtis Summers and built by Philadelphia Toboggan Coasters, this out-and-back layout cuts through Splash Works water park. But has this ride earned the nickname of Spinebuster?

Mighty Canadian Minebuster is an out and back wooden coaster. There is another wooden coaster in the world, with an out and back layout through the terrain and built by Custom Coasters International. If I ask you, what about that? Canobie Coaster would say: I always heard the coaster was horrifically rough, but it wasn't.

I have been riding the Minebuster every year since 1990. The ride was much better back in the day. The trains originally had buzz bars. They were changed to individual lapbars in 1994. The hills unfortunately have been altered. The first half of the ride had three hills. During the 1999-2000 off season they condensed the second and third hills together with that long drawn out (and boring) hill. I have heard that this was to accomodate the splash works bridges but this was done AFTER the bridges were added. I was able to find a 1998 video of the Minebuster in its original form kzbin.info/www/bejne/lau2mqhmfZJrjZI

My main memory of this coaster is it being really bumpy (maybe I had a wheel seat), the interior portion of the helix was SO LOUD and at the end some little girl behind me was bleeding because she had gotten her face smashed into the front seat or holding bar. Good times.

Hi! Loved the video, and to address your question, yes, there have been modifications made to the ride since it opened, you can see the original layout in the video linked here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lau2mqhmfZJrjZI The ride used to have 2 ejector airtime hills in place of that long drawn out boring one. The pedestrian bridge it dives under is still there - which makes me suspect that the hills may have been removed due to excessive wear on the track, not clearances, dunno though. All I can say for certain is that those 2 hills look to give some INSANE ejector, especially in the back.

There are two types of roller coaster modifications, track, trains, elements, sections, systems, and because how people felt and thought with the change or with the modification done, those types of change or modification were called upgrades and downgrades. If you've seen roller coasters with changes or modifications done in the world throughout the history, you've seen changes and modifications considered as upgrades and changes and modifications considered as downgrades. What are the differences between the "upgrades" and the "downgrades"?

@@CanobieCoaster I actually agree with him. As a regular to the park I can assure you that riding it at night (in pitch dark) and/or in the rain makes the experience much better as it adds an extra scare factor, especially since you can barely see the head choppers and since the ride is kinda unpredictable. Also its pretty funny that this video is meant to tell you to avoid the bumpy seats...I always try and get the bumpiest. Its what makes it fun and crazy. Top 5 rides in the park imo plus shorter wait times than other rides.

Save the RMC treatment for Wild Beast. Let Gravity Group get their hands on Minebuster. Add a little more height and steepness to that first drop and smooth out the rough parts of this ride and i bet it would make a thoroughly awesome airtime machine. the drawn out hill used to be 2 smaller hills airtime hills. I have no idea why they profiled the ride this way because the 2 smaller hills didn't need to be modified for the waterpark (the bridge was already there and the one built in 1999 was tall enough that clearance wasn't an issue). My only guess is maybe they needed to modify it for structural reasons, but that doesn't seem likely. The return trip was also modified. The double down used to be a large airtime hill followed by a small bunny hill that actually gave good airtime. The airtime hill had to be modified to fit through the pedestrian bridge and under The Plunge and Super Soaker. This modification was necessary, but they could have modified it much better.

I agree that it has bad pacing and almost no airtime, however, I far prefer it to Wilde Beast, which was one of the roughest operating coasters I've ridden, maybe only topped by Boss. Minebuster ran so smooth for me in 2019, maybe too smooth. Some roughness would've given it some character, but I'll still take a smooth forceless ride over a better layout that beats the snot out of me. When I say Minebuster was smooth, I do mean very smooth, like Phoenix level smooth. I did ride a middle seat of a car every time, and the grouper allowed the strange row request every time. Plus, I heard that it was riding great in 2019. It's my # 6 coaster in the park behind the B&Ms, Vortex, & Backlot.

Canobie Coaster would say: The biggest offense is being boring. The ride is tolerable, my biggest issues with the ride are the pacing and how drawn out the bunny hills are. The first drop in the back is the only notable spot of airtime. That's the best moment on the ride. The ride's biggest strengths are the laterals on the turns and the headchoppers with the water park. I just wish I could have experienced this ride with the old hills. What are the differences between the old hills and the modified hills?

The new hills are more drawn out and lacking airtime.

What are the differences between "awful" and "subpar"?
@CanobieCoaster
@CanobieCoaster 7 ай бұрын
All awful coasters are subpar, but not all subpar coasters are awful. Awful is bad. Subpar is below average.

I rode this back in 2019 and remember enjoying it a decent bit. More than wildebeest at least. I think what it could use is a good retrack with some minor layout changes. Those low to the ground hills could give some massive ejector. That first hill is crazy short for following directly after the drop

I'd love this as an RMC. I unfortunately have only had the Spinebuster rides so I tend to avoid it unless I'm with someone who wants to ride it.

Unfortunately I’ve heard that there’s some kind of Canadian policy that doesn’t allow RMC to do that kind of work

I've heard that several times too. I don't know if it's true or not. I've also heard a rumor that CW would only do a ground-up RMC and not a conversion anyways. Not sure but it's fun to dream about.

Laterals are not my cup of tea, especially being pinned to the side of the train like in that helix since I find it uncomfortable. I vastly prefer Wilde Beaste even though everyone else despises it (Wilde Beaste is my #5 in the park)

@@CanobieCoaster It's literally the worst wooden roller coaster I've ridden. Wilde Beast in the front is the only wooden coaster experience at Canada Wonderland that doesn't suck. The Mighty Canadian Mine Buster is the #1 coaster in the world that needs RMCs "conventional" I-Box track conversion. No Joke.

Imagine riding again coasters in the world that you would say: I would give this coaster a 1 out of 10. I would give this coaster a 2 out of 10. I would give this coaster a 3 out of 10.
