Wonderful overview Omar. I love the fact you took time during this to kind of walk through the characters and stuff. I never was into the Rangers but I’ll be honest I’m intrigued because of the huge HASBRO toy and fig push lately. I agree with everyone about certain areas of this story arc being messy. It's still cool to see different Rangers from different eras team up. I am a big fan of the Dark Ranger and Ranger Slayer especially.

As someone who was a fan of some of the select PR series, I was genuinely taken aback by how uncharacteristic these characters were from their tv series. The green ninja storm ranger in the comic is the polar opposite of who was on TV. The comic makes him out to be the lighthearted jokester, but in the show, his main feature was being a tight-ass. It was just such a shock to my system.

I read the Sins of the Future graphic novel they just put out, and I was thinking the same think about how the writer portrayed Wes in the comic. Too high energy, and just constantly quipping without any characteristics of being a leader, which is where he ended as Time Force came to a close.

Totally unrelated question here. I forgot that Uncanny X-Men Vol 2 reprint was happening this week. I missed out on the DM variant and now Cheap Graphic Novels, Instocktrades, and Tales of Wonder don't have it. I started reading the series late after it got so much praise around Drakkon's introduction, but I managed to find a copy of the first hardcover off eBay from a UK seller, and then picked up all the others as they came out, so obviously I've got this volume pre-ordered as well. I do agree with you however that this story arc is harder to follow than what has come previously in the comic. Up until Shattered Grid, the comic limited itself entirely to the classic first team of rangers, so when all the other teams started getting dropped in, it was inevitable that it would become a bit more obscure to follow. That first group of rangers had so much more time in the show, and now have a couple dozen issues of character work in the comics as well between Go Go and Mighty Morphin, that it would be very difficult to build up another group in such a short period of time. It certainly doesn't help that the action is hard to follow, and I cannot help but feel as though those last couple issues have story that should have taken double or triple the time to play out. I think that complaints and lower sales must have gotten the run ended prematurely and the writer just had to finish things up as quickly as possible. It does worry me a little that people reacted so negatively to the different style of story though. I'm not sure if it was from moving away from the classic team, or that people just aren't as interested in doing a deeper dive into the lore, but I guess it can't be helped if kept the book going. I do wonder if they're going to collect the first chunk of Go Go Power Rangers in a hardcover though, as the next Necessary Evil arc uses that series as kind of a "B side" viewpoint, showing how the team got to where Necessary Evil begins in issue #40 of Mighty Morphin. It also did a lot of really good character work on the original team, plus gives more background to Rita and the green ranger, so I really think it deserves a place on the shelf with all the others. Hopefully it doesn't get abandoned to only trade paperback format.

I think I would have been good if the series had been padded out with character development. For example Tanya talking about losing her team, I don't know if that happened in the TV show or in the comics.

@@NearMintCondition I've seen the first 7 seasons of the show when I was younger, and given that it was designed for kids, there are no actual fatalities in those early seasons (I can't speak to more recent TV content). So I think she's referring to something that happened in Shattered Grid. There's a bunch of short scenes where the story cuts away to other ranger teams being attacked through time and space, and there was one about the Zeo team in the 2018 Annual issue. The Beyond the Grid story starts with them warping away from the last battle of Shattered Grid, so it makes sense that she would still be traumatized about any losses from the battle, as this team doesn't know the outcome of that story yet.

I didn't mind this story, but it wasn't up to par with what came before. I liked the focus being on different rangers because I'm one of those people who has seen every series, so it's always nice when some other characters get some love (the originals will always be my favourites though!). As for them being out of character, ehh I just tell myself it's not the same universe as the TV series, so I can forgive differences, but I completely understand the frustration people have with it. I'm just happy for any Power Rangers content! And as much as I would love to have the set of Hardcovers, I already have all the trade paperbacks and I need the funds for other books!

The next arc makes it pretty much crystal clear this can't be the TV reality anymore, so yeah, I'm okay with things deviating here and there. I do admit I've only watched the first 7 seasons of the show though, so I don't have a horse in the race if say a Power Rangers Time Force member acts out of character. If it results in an interesting story, I'm all for making changes to the "canon".

Higgins' run is a pretty good stopping point if you want. Necessary Evil is great, and also almost twice as long as Shattered Grid. And it's all set up to what comes next. We've yet to see if it pays off or not. I'd say power through Beyond the Grid (although I didn't find it so bad as most people are saying), the payoff in NE and beyond is really cool.

As a life long ranger fan I didn't enjoy this story. Necessary Evil is so much better. Heckyl is the Dark Ranger here who was never on the show (dark ranger was sentai only.) The Dino Charge blue ranger is Koda played by Yoshi Sudarso. Yuri and Ari and the Solarix are all brand new made just for this story. I went on and ordered this cause I am a ranger fanboy but I doubt I will re-read it very much. Great video as always!

The story with Ari & Remi is not part of the Anniversary Special, it’s newly made for this hardcover (it’ll probably be reprinted in another format though like all of the other hardcover exclusive stories). Personally, as a lifelong PR fan, I did not care for this story arc. All the Rangers are out of character, most of the dialogue is almost laughably bad, the art is very hit or miss, and a lot of the issues have loads of exposition and very little action. Truthfully, I pretty much only got this hardcover for the Anniversary Special and the new story

MMPR, 31-39 (Beyond the Grid) GoGo, 21-27, 29-32 (all part of Necessary Evil) MMPR, 40-50 (all part of Necessary Evil) Power Rangers - Ranger Slayer one shot Power Rangers - Drakkon New Dawn, 01-03 MMPR 51-55 Mighty Morphin', 01 Power Rangers, 01 (Released today. It takes place after Mighty Morphin', 01, still no clue if it's weaving the two series like the SG crossover or not). MMPR - Pink, 01-06 There is also the mini comics, annuals, OGNs and other stuff that is hard to place or doesn't fit the canon. That's not a reading order, mind.
