Hey, I am loving this whole series. Can't believe I'm not the only one out there who loves this creature. I was a bit shocked when I saw the final size. I love how big Jabba is compared to Bib, but it pains me to say that Jabba was actually MUCH shorter than Bib in the film. Bib's chin comes in just above Jabba's eye level. Jabba's scale is something that has been so all over the place throughout the history of Jabba toys, illustrations, models and statues. But in the film, his enormous size is mostly a product of that throne he sits on. In fact, when Bib (who was quite a bit taller than anyone else up there) speaks to him, he has to lean over quite a bit, Even one of the more famous photos that shows Bib only a bit taller is misleading, because when you look at his legs, he's actually standing on the stairs, with his right leg propped up on the throne above. Long story short, Jabba was very short. Shorter than 3PO even. All that being said, I think it's probably appropriate to print him at the same scale relative to the enlarged figures as the original toy was to the original figures.
@MightyJabbasCollection3 жыл бұрын
As you say, in the end I'm recreating the vintage figure and not the actual character. I would agree that Jabba is not as large as people generally think he is.

That's pretty cool. I have seen the figures in person, but looking at the ome I got today, I realized they can't do Jabba and his throne. They can't do what the Kenner set was in 1983. They could but each component would need to be separate, they would be huge and they would be expensive. I imagine the throne would be the size of the thing holding my 43" TV. Where do you put that? They could do Jabba, see why happens, and them offer limited throne and then possibly the accessories. Each component would be $500.

@gubernatorfan18063 жыл бұрын
Thank you for taking this project on, completing it, and sharing it (and the process) with us. It seems to me that with a more realistic paint job (which wasn't your objective) this could easily look almost as accurate as the Sideshow version and certainly more versatile. Also, it may be your touch or the excellence of the original Kenner sculpt or both, but I think your jumbo version looks better than the Gentle Giant figures. My hat's off to you.
@Shakes_The_Clone Жыл бұрын
I’m thinking about a Black Series size Vintage Jabba. What percentage increase would you think for scaling up the Desert Octopus model? Someone told me that the math for going 1:18 to 1:12 scale is original size multiplied by 1.6… so 160%. Does that sound right to you?
@MightyJabbasCollection Жыл бұрын
I think that would be right, although you might want to think about how big you want the Jabba figure to be in relation to any other 1/12 scale figures you might want to display with it, and adjust the numbers so they look right together.

Looks really nice! What happened to your lifesize Jabba? Did you ever finished it?
@MightyJabbasCollection4 жыл бұрын
I've addressed this a number of times, but it's understandable that not everyone knows about it. Long story short, I don't think I'm going to be able to paint the life-size one, because for it to look decent at all, I would have to fill in the gaps with some sort of body filler, and I don't think that will work well in the basement (both in terms of fumes and the dust that would be produced from sanding). I know this is disappointing.

Hey did you ever finish painting the life sized Jabba? I just finished the rest of the episodes and was wondering.
@MightyJabbasCollection4 жыл бұрын
Basically I determined that I can't paint it because I can't fill the gaps between the panels to make it look decent without adding body filler and sanding, etc. Since it's stuck in my basement I can't really do that (the fumes and dust would be pretty bad). And I'd rather keep it looking like a white statue than do a half-way job of painting it and making it look worse.

I love this, but I think you went a bit too large in the end. Bib is about 10 - 12 inches taller than Jabba in Return of the Jedi. I think your original ratio may have been the better one. IMHO. Great job all around though! I just bought the Kenner Jabba the Hutt playset, Sy Snootles and the Rebo Band, and Amanaman POTF figure. Those were not cheap, but they are beautiful!
@MightyJabbasCollection2 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind that I was trying to replicate how tall the vintage figures are relative to each other, so the height of the characters in the movie is not really relevant. But yes it is difficult to know what the best scale for some of these things is because Gentle Giant was not consistent about it themselves
@drdwaynecuster2 жыл бұрын

Jabba isn't really that tall as he sits on the dais, he's less than 6 feet tall. Bib was taller when on the same level with Jabba in the movie. Of course, you are scaling him with how they were scaled with the Kenner figures.
@MightyJabbasCollection4 жыл бұрын
The question isn’t how tall Jabba really was (that’s something I’ve already investigated at length when I printed my life-size version, but I think you are correct). The question is how tall the vintage Jabba figure was in relation to other figures, since that’s what I’m trying to recreate. He’s taller than a normal human, so I had to make him taller than the Gentle Giant figures
