[Part 6/8] How to Rebuild Your Toyota Engine 1NZFE Head and Cams Install

In this video we go over how to check valve clearance on the head. Then we install the head and put on a new cam sprocket and go over how to properly install the VVT actuator. Then we install the cams.

I got confused on the lock unlock position on the exhaust camshaft. He keep mentioning the unlock written on the gear as locked

I just labeled it to clear the confusion. All you need to do is torque it while it's "unlocked" or you can break the internal lock pin. Once torqued. You can twist it until it's clicks into locked position.

“I’ve got a brand new one from the factory”, what exactly is the name of the “brand new one”? (at the end of the camshaft, that piece that went into the locked position)

Hey thanks for the video but i need some assistance. I have rebuilt this very engine three times now but it's still smoking too much even after changing the piston rings and valve seals. What could be the problem or even my mistake??

Is the smoke actually coming from the exhaust? Did you have the valve seats refaced at the machine shop? There's many things that could be going on.

@@gracelubuulwawhere is the smoke coming from? Is it out the exhaust or coming from somewhere on the engine itself? Also what color is the smoke? Anti freeze smoke will be white and oil smoke will be a blue-ish color. Did you have the head resurfaced? Is the pcv valve blocked?

@@MakeItMike timing and camshaft, like when you remove the camshaft, how do you realign it?

@@scionnn I go over that in the next video. Basically the timing marks on the cam shaft gears point straight up and the crank mark is at a 90 degree to the right. Then the timing chain has colored links that go on the specific teeth lined up with the timing marks.

I droppef one of the washers in the exact place you said not to, but I retreived it with a telescopic magnetic pick up tool.

Question: I noticed this engine does not have valve gap adjustment (no rockers etc). Im planning to overhaul my engine and I watched tons of videos. I watched yours several times. In case of valve lapping / grinding won't the valves move up further? If so, then how to adjust valve gaps?

The valve cap heads (valve buckets) have different thicknesses. You can special order the right ones. I let the machine shop handle that part I didn't want to mess with it. If the new bucket head makes the clearance too tight that's when you would grind the end of the stem to get clearance back into spec. Kind of an annoying design for builders but they don't technically "go out" like hydraulic ones do.

Okay doses Toyota Corollas have brings under the cam caps. I don't see any on the market. I had cam bring on my toyota Corolla but there missing Looks like it would melt down ? I'm trying to order A new set no can do. Why is that?.
