I have debilitating migraines. It starts with little black dots that won't leave my eyes then my eyesight gets really blurry then I get a slight headache and that's when i know i'm doomed. My migraines are always on a 10 scale, unfortunately, vomiting and all 😅 I have dealt with this from a very young age and the only way to stop it is to catch it early! I am owner training my psd / alert dog and it is helping a lot. this video really helped!! and i thought it was funny with the aquariums at the beginning, because i am a huge fish hobbiest and i actually keep several very large tanks in my room 😂 yup, one aspect of desensitizing doen

itscalledakuma I completely understand where you're coming from. I have Chronic Migraine Syndrome, and I have AWFUL migraines at least 4-5 times a week. I have three different types. I have regular ones that are just pressure behind my eyes. I can usually deal with those and work through them. The second kind is a bit more.. angry. It's pressure all over my head, I'm light, sound, smell, and stress triggered and sensitive. These make me really dizzy, they make my tremors worse, and I can barely eat without being nauseous. The last kind is like the ones she mentions in the video. The left side of my body is completely numb, my face droops, my words slur, I lose vision, and I throw my guts up. Then for days after the migraine, I can't eat, I can't move, I can't be in sunlight or anything. These will last days at a time, and they make me extremely suicidal. It doesn't help that I'm hypoglycemic as well, because my blood sugar drops immensely during migraines, since I can't consume anything properly.

Actually, dogs can detect a migraine up to 48 hours in advance because they can detect the prodrome phase. My Aussie gives me 12-hour advance notice...which is fantastic as I am a travel writer. Tazuna climbs in my lap, puts a paw on each of my shoulders, and then nudges my chin with her nose...but a lot of dogs will stare at their owner or sticking very close, Giving them a nudge or licking you, or Circle around you. They should NEVER bark to alert you - for obvious reasons. Great video though - I inked to it in my Migraine Alert Dog Article. :)

God knows I need this. Mine get so bad sometimes I can't stand up, talk, or even open pill bottles. I have to call for help to find my migraine meds. (Sometimes they don't even work or take forever to kick in as I'm having one)It would be great not having to worry about bothering roommates or friends who I can't communicate with bc I can speak coherently or sometimes not even there to help me. I've had to call my sister over to my apt to help find my medication bc I couldn't get up and was vomiting violently, even though there was no longer anything in my stomach. To have someone always with me to help me out in that situation would be so helpful.

This would help with chronic migraines and avoid costly E.R. visits for rescue, especially if the auras are not always followed by debilitating pain and cascading neurological symptoms. Knowing if you are about to have a full-blown attack could help stop overmedicating after window of opportunity and maintain function. Mine are so bad you can see them on an MRI and they have caused vision loss in the eye they affect.

I've currently got an SDiT for migraine alert- I agree with the early notification and med retrieval, but another thing they can do is help with trigger mitigation (in some cases). One of my migraine triggers is forgetting to eat/disordered eating, so my SDiT is also being trained to alert me every 4 hours, as a reminder that we both need a snack.

I am diagnosed with chronic migraines. Some start with an aura and I can prevent them by taking meds immediately. But some fo not start with an aura, they just come on like a ton of bricks. With those I don't know they are coming in time to prevent them and my meds don't help much. I have cognitive issues during a migraine & cannot explain or even think what I need, so prevention is important.

I have ptsd and autism. My ptsd affects my everyday life and I really need a service dog. It is a last resort because I’ve tried like 5 different medications over the years and a few different counseling places. Nothing works. I never knew there are migraine alert dogs! This is sooo cool! I have migraines and migralepsy! And sleep apnea. I have a lot going on. I can’t get another dog right now so I have to train the one I have!

I am getting treated and tested for not only migraines but complex migraines, which have weird effects on me including causing panic attacks, and it would be great for me to train my dog (who I adopted as a prospect and already shows to know when I'm having a bad time or not with my health issues) to alert me to either type. Complex migraines for me cause temporary cognitive disabilities and the pain can vary between none at all and emergency levels. Last time I went to the hospital for a migraine they had trouble putting the IV in my arms, and the reason they gave for the difficulty was that I was in so much pain my blood vessels were tightening, kinda like spasms, and when they found a good vein the veins would contract and they would lose them. The cocktail helped, once they got it in me, but while I was home recovering I had residual pain in my head for multiple days after that slowly dulled until it was gone. I also suffer from surprise panic attacks and I would love to train my dog to alert me when those are about to happen (as he already has shown that he recognizes when I'm having a "panic day" or when I'm having an attack) so that I can get to a safer place to have it, or take medication to stop it, or at least be able to alert people around me that I am about to have one and let them know how it needs to be dealt with. When I have panic attacks I tend to have trouble with verbal communication, and they often cause severe nausea for me as well as weakness and disorientation. I have noticed since getting my dog a month and a half ago and having several panic attacks in the last three weeks, I've felt more grounded in reality during the attacks when he has been there. He even alerts me to people coming down the stairs and to my room (we live in a finished basement) so they don't sneak up on me (which I kinda like him doing because I get especially jumpy when it's late or I'm having an attack and it's much easier for me when he tells me someone's there). He also is basically velcro to me when I'm having an attack and often refuses to follow someone upstairs to go outside for a potty break because he wants to stay with me. I'm working on letting him know it's okay to go for a bit and then come back. When I have to take my Xanax for an attack he lays with me in my bed (once I've calmed down enough to be able to lie down) or next to me while I fall asleep, and will bark if anyone is coming to my room and go to greet them, as if to say "she's resting". He knows when I'm having an attack I need rest and will keep tabs on me while he plays with his toys or lays with me (depending on where we are and if I can lie down at the time) and then settle down when I finally relax. He doesn't get upset when I don't feed him on time, and he's very happy when I am acting like I feel good. I'm optimistic about his ability to become a great Service Dog, and he's responding well to training with me so far. We are getting him evaluated with an organization local to us for training by their professional trainers and they say they are hopeful for his chances as well based on what I've told them about him.

Hi I'm just wondering whether the dogs would be able to alert me to a cluster headache attack too? I've had chronic migraines for all my life so I have learned to "deal" with them but the cluster headaches often leave me in so much pain and so suddenly that I literally cannot move not even to get to my oxygen pump...I live alone and I can't call my dad to help me every single day so I need a different solution. And being able to get to the pump before the pain starts or alerting me in time so I can get home to the pump as soon as possible while away would be a major help.

I have ocular migraines at least that's what my doctor called them. They only started in my twenties and I only noticed it when I was working in retail they have those touch screen computers for some reason I couldn't see the letters everything was clear and crisp but the letters they were too hard to focus on for some reason instead my eyes were focusing more on like the reflection coming off the computer or on something that I didn't want to focus on and it makes it incredibly hard to do any work they usually pass in about 3 minutes but it terrifies me when driving that I might have one though I can still in general see about where I'm at I do tend to pull over and understand what it's like to sit in the car until it passes it could be 30 minutes sometimes it could last an hour and you feel totally helpless and you don't want to cause any accidents but you're also sitting on the side of a highway and other cars are flying past you or what if you're in a five-lane highway and on the fast lane

My 9mo Lab hasn't missed 1 migraine alert in 2 mo. It's great because I feel comfortable making plans now & not having to cancel due to pain & 12 hours of throwing up. Only problem I'm having is on New Year's Eve the fireworks scared my dog so badly that I can barley get her out the front door. She's starting to fear all loud sounds like construction sites & trash trucks, etc. Thankfully the onset of my migraines happen while I'm sleeping & she's able to alert me.

I have a condition called hydrocephalus and this condition causes chronic migraines tension headaches pressure headaches that can last forever quite some time. I got them very frequently and I already have a medical alert service dog who is still in training but not quite certified yet and I think that I would benefit from her learning the tasks that come with migraine alert. I have four years experience training domestic dogs and my dog is the first service dog that I trained and I am training my husband service dog as well. I currently do not have the money to go and get help from a trainer so I am trying to see what I can do from my point of view to get this training done, my dog is 10 months old and the medium breed

How would a notification about these small daily painful episodes help you? Do you have an abortive medication you take? Do they prevent you from doing activities safely like driving a car or something as simple as staying upright (ie the pain is so bad it knocks you to the ground without notice)?

And even getting out of bed or going to school.
