Just made my migration this morning. From UDMP to UDMP-Max. Was quite easy with the restore configuration directly from the UI cloud-account, no local files needed. Whole process took less than 20 minutes, with more than 100 UI peripherals (switches, AP's, even LTE failover and load balancing, VPN's, VLAN's) and several hundred clients. Network version 8.2.93 and Unifi OS 3.2.17 - but thank you very much for your video, it was reassuring to know that the migration works

Watched this little beauty so many times in the last three weeks - that I feel like I have known you forever!! You were the best example of how to do this migration on the internet. THANK YOU! I was able to start my process early by adopting with bluetooth. However, 3 weeks later when I executed the migration, I actually had to do a factory reset on the new SE. Once I did that - followed your directions to the tee - and voila! Perfection! Thanks again. I love Ubiquiti and have been using it for years: 70 Clients, 10 Cameras, Speakers, Thermostats, 5 AP's, 8 Switches and now a new UDM_PRO_SE! Gone from Cloud Key to UDM to UDM-PRO to the SE. Thanks again for the assist!!

@@LarsKlintTech - with regards to the camera vlan, with exception of a couple cameras that send real time emails alerts if motion is detected in certain areas, I don't allow any outbound traffic to the internet (they only need to talk to the NVR). Firewall rules are set for allowing outbound traffic to external smtp ports and IPs for couple cameras. The NVR is also allowed SMTP to send me emails if there are issues (storage, etc) and also outbound to sync with external NTP servers. The IoT network allows outbound traffic to the internet since it is such a mix of about 50 or so devices that wouldn't function properly without it.

They really need to improve this process quite a lot. Page 1 of the controller setup should have new setup or restore from backup as the first options in the procedure, rather than having to go through a whole setup. Had to do a very similar restore a few weeks ago with a CloudKey Gen 2 and it was not very friendly to use - it did work eventually (orphaned APs etc) but it was an axious time.
@LarsKlintTech2 жыл бұрын
Agree, there could be improvements. To be fair, if I had not assumed the migration would work from Pro to SE, the rest would have been somewhat smoother. The app migrations worked well, but still weird I couldn't find the SE with the phone app 🤔

Well done and right on time for me! I just received my UDM SE two days ago and ran into the same UniFi console restore issue. Like you I proceeded to restore the network and protect from backup and everything looked fine. Well two days after that the UniFi console does not respond and I can only login with ui account with limited functionality. When I attempt to go to the admin users section the web gui crashes. The network is working fine even though the console shows that the network application has not launched. Protect will not launch at all and all of the protect devices are not available. I think that the UniFi console needed to be restored but I cannot restore it via the gui. Maybe I should try via ssh?
@LarsKlintTech2 жыл бұрын
It sounds like something has broken somewhere. You might have to reset it physically. Guide: help.ui.com/hc/en-us/articles/205143490-UniFi-How-to-Reset-Devices-to-Factory-Defaults
@Timi70072 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't recommend forcing restores over SSH, since some stuff just isn't compatible and while the GUI will simply deny the restore the CLI might go through and brick the device. Which than wouldn't be covered by warranty since it was done via SSH.

The protect cameras were online from just restoring the network settings before importing the protect migration file. I thought that was strange. RESTORING EXPERIENCES I have some restaurants that use protect, and an office that uses unifi, and in the past the version issue has always been the most fearful part of the restore. almost 100% of the time I have to grab ladders and go all over the building resetting devices because the last backup version was older than what the replacement device is, and there is no way I found to roll back a new device to match the backed version. This Im my view is unifi's network side of things the most important issue to clean up. new features IMHO should defiantly take a back seat to restoring complete loss of functionality (AKA restoring when things go really wrong)
@LarsKlintTech10 ай бұрын
I hear you. The restoring experience also fills me with dread. Luckily I don't have to do it very often, but I have also reset devices to get them adopted into the new controller etc.

When you run into the login issue! It's not unique to this router it has to do with chrome's cache. To fix it Ctrl-Shift-I (or manually enable developer tools by clicking 3 dots more tools then developer tools ). Doing this enables otherwise hidden submenus. The one your looking for is empty cach and hard reload. To access this right click refresh button and then click empty cache and hard reload. After doing this your web interface should work. If you right click refresh without developer tools open the menu will not appear.

Hi John. Good question. I assume you are going to use the Lorex and Netgear devices to start with? In that case I'd definitely go with the UDM SE.
