I been running DSM since 2003 and yes they break alot. We even say DSM stands for don't start motors but if you keep on wrenching eventually they will run awhile. My first DSM was a 91 Eclipse GST with 320,000 miles and it still started and ran everyday. The car is only as reliable as the owner. 2G 7 bolt motors are not as strong as the 6 bolt 4G63 and are notorious for crank walk.. I been away from the scene a few years now, kinda moved onto Mustangs but i do know your pain, been there many times

I have rebuilt so many of these engines they’re very resilient. But considering they were never designed to except boost it is always a good idea to take them completely apart and replace every gasket. I always redo the head gasket with a MLS as well as redo all the intake manifold gaskets. I go through the engine top to bottom in order to get her ready to except a boost. If you don’t you’re gonna have nothing but issues throughout his whole life span with a turbo remember the triangle when building a engine good, fast, cheap you can only have two pick your poison.

If there was no sign of a valve hitting the piston then its the carbon buildup on the valves, very easy to clean off and test! Keep up the good work! 👍

2.4 swap it. 200 for a motor. Srt4 rebuild kit 400 on rockauto. Use your rebuilt head on it, rewire the injectors and flip your crank sensor 180 degrees. Need to fab an engine mount for the pass side. I can give you pics of everything needed to get it done

Valve problems suck. Its best to just redo the valve train. You never know what people do to cars. Im picking up my srt4 head next week, needed new valve seats.

You guys did the leak down test improperly, its easy to identify exactly what's going on before having to take apart anything. Where is the air escaping? if its rings it will come out the crank case breather, if its an intake valve air will be pissing out the intake, if its exhaust valve leaking air will be pissing out the exhaust. if its a valve than that's an easy fix by staking the valves with air pressure on that cylinder to blow that crap out. judging by the amount of carbon id say it was the valves. another way if staking the valves didn't work is to lap the valve seats by removing the valve springs and with a hose slip over the valve stem and attached to a drill clean the seats until compression is restored. I've fixed many low compression engines this way.

I feel your pain. My first motor collapsed a wrist pin. Second motor threw a rod threw the block. 3rd motor had the crank shaft pulley come loose and burn up the oil pump. I'm sending the motor off to get build stronger. All these problems and I'm still not giving up on my Durango Copper Pearl 96 RS.

You can use the same Turbo but obviously basically everything else will be different. But with the 4g64 they are already guide for them you just need to basically make you’re 4g64 a 4g63T. Most part from those motor are interchangeable cause they reuse thing and they are in the same engine family

@@maui3302 Yeah I have friend that have done the swap is not that uncommon. But from what I know you have to change the piston cause the head fits without any modification but the 4g64 piston are High compression and have a longer travel and the 4g63t are low compression. But just so you know if you make your 4g64 Turbo, it will be faster then a 4g63t with the same set up cause you will have more displacement
