Wished these two would have done many more shows together....as a pianist myself, I've always been intrigued with they way they use the foot pedal. Pastor Jimmy Lee Swaggart does the same thing; their right foot is away from the sustain pedal keeping time somewhat, and their LEFT foot presses the sustain pedal at times!! Is this a Southern country technique? I have never seen anyone else do this, and all 3 Jimmy, Mickey, and Jimmy do it!! Thoughts? thanks in advance!!!

Love it. Those cousins love each other for sure! And... the only two people Jerry didn't got angry with... Mickey Gilley and Jimmy Lee Swaggart.

That was really interesting because I always thought Mickey wasn't nearly the piano man Jerry Lee is but he kept up. Mickey Gilley just released a new LP at 83 with Troy Payne and survivored a car roll over and paralysis at one point too. So they're both survivors.

I wish I could see Jerry’s left hand better, I don’t know the pattern he’s playing, I could listen to it but it’s kinda hard to hear

Tried to put this piano duel together in 1979...Mickey was all for it...Jerry was totally against it..He told me,”FK Mickey, I don’t need him!”Glad they finally DID IT!!!🙏☮️COUSINS

I just saw this on Rolling Stone:Stories Edge Episode Four. Jerry Lee Lewis & Jimmy Swaggert are cousins. Mickey Gilley is their first cousin and they all grew up together in Farida Louisiana. Believe it or not Jimmy Swaggert is no slouch on the piano either. I thought it was an interesting side note

Mickey's mom and JERRYS father is brother and sister. JIMMY is a second cousin to them.

Jerry was a studio pianist "recording", when Elvis walked in and liked Jerry's style. Give Jerry that credit.

@@MsJanoak If JIMMY is only 2nd cousin to them, then Jimmy's mother or father has to be THEIR 1st cousin?? Jimmy uses the "Nashville Number" system with his Gospel band on the SBN show. Mickey is very accomplished on piano, love his piano work on his "That's All That Matters"..his vocals are just extraordinary as well!! In fact Mickey has stated that was his favorite vocal/piano record he ever did, and I'll 2nd that!

Mickey's mother and Jerry Lee's father are brother and sister. jimmy Swaggart is 2nd cousin. They are Evangical Assembly of God in religious training. Jerry Lee would sit outside the Honky Tonk in Ferriday as a child listening to that music inside as a child. He begged for a piano and taught himself to play it. That was from about 6-7 years old. It was both Jimmy and Mickey learned from him. Jerry Lee did more than just boogie woogieing. His music has creole lean also in it. True deltal sound. Check out the list of the creole musicians he is on that list also. Very interesting.

Rest In Peace MG! I can't believe Jerry Lee is still around, he is a legend and I listen to him all the time. When he goes folks will jump on a bandwagon praising him. Celebrate your heroes while they are still with us. I bet MG and JLL might spend some time in purgatory but Jimmy might stay in Purgatory for eternity or worse. At least JLL and MG entertained people for their money instead of stealing their $ in the name of GOD.
