The King of steel guitar. My uncle was good friends with Bud. Bud actually gave him some pointers on building a steel. My uncle just recently passed away. He was the last of my dad’s six brothers. They all played music. Our family reunions were full of great music! I miss them all.

Love steel guitar sound. Miss it in today's "country ".

Exactly. Pedalsteel is old school high tech. Wish more younger men and women would pursue it as a challenge to master... then bust into that "new country" Nashville pop tripe and put it on its ear.

Rudi Wairata the best lapsteel guitarist ever
@MrPatdeeee2 жыл бұрын
@@derekmoore6265 Sorry Derek You still say that. But I believe Jerry Byrd IS the best lapsteel-er. To the "nth" degree. Now... I won't debate it with you. But MOST Steel Guitarists will tell you that Jerry has NO equal. NOT to mention one "better"! So keep on saying that Derek. But the world of SG will not be with you. End of Story and FINIS!

@@MrPatdeeee Sorry I can’t agree Rudi was one of the best musically educated people ever to play the steel guitar.Jerry lived to an old age,Rudi died a young man.Rudi Wairata was a very popular steel guitarist.I know a lot of steel guitarists around the world would disagree with you on that one.Billy hew len was better than Jerry unfortunately people will not come out and say it.If Hawaiian steel guitar music was only Jerry Byrd I would never have listen to Hawaiian music.Regards and Aloha

Composed by Bob Wills and his steel guitar player Leon McCauliffe.
@MrPatdeeee2 жыл бұрын
Sorry, Bob Wills did not compose SGR. But Leon McAuliffe said he composed it. There is great debate about that. Many say that a black man Sylvester Weaver recorded it in 1927. And Bob and Leon, did not record SGR until 1936. Proof: please click on the link... kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqndqXtsrK6Debs kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWLQeXqkm8Zpeas

A bit of Trivia: Bob Wills and Leon McAuliff recorded "Steel Guitar Rag" in 1936. And for decades Leon said he wrote it. And all of us believed that. But later years; a person found a record; made in 1927 named "Guitar Rag". And the player on the record was a black man, named Sylvester Weaver When it is played; it sounds just like Leon played; except Sylvester did it on a regular guitar. So a BIG debate and argument was spawned. As to who wrote it. Leon's fans would not budge, of course. But others said, "How could Leon say; he wrote a recording in 1936; when Sylvester's' record plainly says "1927" A 9 yr "between"... I loved Leon. But truth is truth. And I now believe that Leon stole it; and said he wrote it. so help me. End of Story. And may Jesus have mercy on Leon; for that "dastardly" thing he did. Thus... The first link is Bob Wills' and Leon McAulliff's recording in 1936. The second link is Sylvester's' recording in 1927. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqndqXtsrK6Debs kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWLQeXqkm8Zpeas

Ricky did a fine job on acoustic. Go watch and react to Albert Lee playing this on electric guitar. Albert wrote it and is one of free premiere guitar players in country music. The lead break that threw you was on a pedal steel guitar. Different from a lap steel and different from a dobro, which is an acoustic steel top, resonator guitar. Dobro is played flat, has a raised bridge and strings and is played with a steel bar, like a steel guitar. A resonator guitar looks very similar, but is played like a regular guitar, the resonators in the body give it a different sound from a wooden body. This is a pedal steel guitar, electric, but it has a volume pedal, plus pedals to raise and lower notes, plus at least one knee lever to change the pitch of a note. Players use a thumb pick and steel finger picks on the pointer and middle fingers. Check out Steel guitar master, Buddy Emmons to see it in action.

Check out the new book about Buddy, and some technical stuff about pedal steel guitar too. I heard about Buddy E on the Buddy Miller/Jim Lauderdale SiriusXM show on Outlaw Country station. As for use of the pedal today, if they had any imagination in commercialized Nashville anymore, they'd find new ways of using it well, even on their crap songs. The East Nashville Americana crew is still doing the great instrumentation on thier recordings and tours. Go see Todd Snider, Sturgill Simpson, Emmylou Harris or Margo Price... you'll get your nostalgia and pedal steel fix from the cats in *those* bands, as of 2022.
