Great troubleshooting. That's what I was always the best at. Actual repair, that was hit or miss with me. It always frustrated me, that after I told another tech the exact steps I followed, it never seemed to matter, they would go through the same steps. But, I can understand it. It's easy to miss some subtlety when troubleshooting electronics.

I ran into a lot of those Carrier 90+ furnaces with bad primary heat exchangers because the installers never changed the heating cycle rate on the thermostat to 3 cycles per hour from the factory default setting of 6 cycles per hour. The short cycles would not allow enough run time to get the heat exchanger up to temperature and resulted in flue gases condensing in the primary instead of the secondary one. The condensed flue gases would rust out the primary after 4 or 5 years. 6 cph was okay for 80+ furnaces.

6cph is ridiculous for any furnace.

Nice just learned about ecms today in class great to see what it’s about before we get into the labs

Always nice to make your own diagnosis. Nothing on those Carrier units are inexpensive . Those motors, boards and inducer motors are crazy expensive. Nice second opinion on the motor. That confirmation tool is pretty cool.👍👍🇨🇦

The mounting bracket for the motor reminds me of the old school Christmas tree stands.

That heat inducer motor sounded like crap, they always sound that way?

on propane, should have just changed the furnace and done a heatpump at the same time. doubt the new secondary will last on propane.

You showed a lot of common sense & common courtesy today Joe... neither of those qualities are very common these days.
