If they are credited to the song, they can. Tarja's been signing Nightwish's songs since her departure, it's crazy to think that her first concerts where mainly Nightwish's songs with a couple of preview songs from My Winter Storm album which came in 2007, plus some of her Christmas songs.

Any artist can play a song from another on stage live as a cover. The only thing is if its not being recorded live to become a paid release like a cd or a dvd, in that case they need to ask consent and pay the royalty for the use of the composition. That also would include Tarja or Marko solo. :)

It just depends on the agreements when they were part of the band and when they separated. If they all collaborated in creating the work and didn't give up their rights contractually they should be able to. Tarja was one of the founding members, there would be little reason to give up here rights unless they paid her. Performing in different countries also affects potential copywriter enforcement

Tarja e Marco combinação perfeita de vozes a Tarja poderia fazer um cover das outras musicas do nightwish que tinha as outras cantores e marco cantava como dueto. A voz de tarja se combina muito com de Marco. Floor pode cantar bem mas dueto com Marco nao ficava tao legal como de Tarja. Já Anette ja nem acho voz dela tao pro metal.

They can perform the song live, as any band or artist can. But as they are not members anymore that becomes a cover technically. But for instance, any remaster or new editions on the materials that Tarja or Marko are in, NW needs their consent to proceed, as they are the credited artists in the master tapes, and so still receive royalties somehow, but the song doesn't belong to them. If they wanna release that on any official and profissional ways of video or song together without Nightwish, they would need consent from Tuomas as well. So, I hope you understood the technicality of "cover" on the title. 😘

Nuclear Blast owns the © unless the band members bought the rights. Only fair since they paid for the music studio, equipment, the techs, the utilities, the tapes, the lawyers, the promotion, they paid to get people who could get meetings with the venue owners they will play with. The tour busses, the planes, the private security, the hotels, the food, the medical staff...it really is akin to a small army. Not forgetting Crewish and the other roadies who make the magic happen. Hence why they get the lion's share of the monies made. They took the risk. Now if you have the money to make it worth their while the label might sell the rights. Potential money 50 years on when they are long retired and dead or to old to spend the money vs a payout that sets them up for 20 years NOW? Well that investment is why © exists. Otherwise its not worth producing content.
