I got this two weeks ago today. Works great, dialing in was easy and my Americano is to die for.

Think I’ll go for the DF54. Looking forward to that “better” coffee experience.

Seems pretty good, I'll be looking into this one as I'll need myself a first espresso grinder, but I don't have the espresso brewer either yet. I have other expensive hobbies as well so I'll see when I get around to it.

Bambino is a great first option at a reasonable price (£200 on sale). Make sure to ask kev for his 15 percent off code

A lot of new grinders are out compared to when I was looking at back in 2020, I got a Eureka Mignon Facile because it was the cheapest Mignon, I had looked at the DF64 but it just came out and there was very little info, I looked at the Settle 270 but it was so noisy and they were having some problem with the 270 which was later quickly fixed, so I bought the Mignon and I'm not diappointed, does a much better job than the built in grinder on my BE Pro, the grind is so even and no clumping, it does have retention but I put a bellows on it and I tap the grinder shoot and get almost all with maybe .1 - .2g left, there are so many to chose from now at some great prices, DF40, DF54, DF64, Fellows, Varia, etc :)

There are so many new grinders coming out at the moment, it is hard to keep on top of them all!
@keithlear91004 ай бұрын
one thing I don't understand about the DF grinders is that they are supposed to be zero retention, but I hear lots of complaints about them clogging! If they are zero retention how do they manage to clog? I actually ordered a DF54 but then saw people complaining about clogging and cancelled it. Are they not zero retention or is it down to user errors?

Question, is Bambino plus 4 holes steam head compatible with the latest dual boiler breville signature?

Would you say this is a step up from the Breville/Sage Smart Grinder Pro or about the same?
@Coffee_Kev8 ай бұрын
if you're looking purely for an espresso grinder, you're not fussed about an all rounder (which is where the smart grinder pro really comes into its own) I wouldn't say this is a step up, as such, burr quality is similar, but for espresso I think you'll find it easier on this to get to a more specific grind size. Sometimes on the SGP you can find yourself stuck in between two grind settings and just wishing it had one (or two) adjustments in between, and although this does have soft clicks, you can actually adjust in between them and it doesn't seem to automatically jump into the nearest setting while grinding. Smart grinder pro is more slick though, the grind button on this is a bit of a PITA. I'd also be thinking about the Baratza Encore ESP, Lelit Fred, and defo the DF54. Ta, Kev.

for espresso - Df54 or the df40+ ? Thank you 🙏

Unless you're specifically looking for conical burrs, or your spouse will divorce you over an extra 25 quid, I can't think of a good reason to get the DF40+ over the DF54.

Having both here in the studio, my advice would be to wait, there's very little comparison, D40+ is pretty good for the money, DF54 is chuffing unbelievable for the money. Ta, Kev.

@Coffee_Kev8 ай бұрын
Cheers David. RDT (spraying a small amount of water onto your beans) or the spoon handle technique (running the spoon handle under the tap very quickly then stirring the beans with it) is what most people do, some grinder manufacturers don't recommend it. Ultimately in the long term I think it's up to grinder manufacturers to sort this out, and they are doing particularly at the higher end of things, hopefully it'll become the norm with all grinders. Ta, Kev.
