Helpful hint for those possibly concerned: Putting a drop or two of ox gall or synthetic ox gall if you prefer not to use the actual thing, into your jar of clean water for painting, solves the lack of flow on wet into wet that these paints have. I went from not enjoying my paints to flow to enjoying letting the paints do their own thing, and wanted to keep using my mission gold paints, so I purchased a bottle of ox gall. Two drops with a dropper into a full disposable (but reused for painting) water bottle is all I need to get them to flow like my Daniel Smith colors.

Thanks so much for the tip! I also wanted total control of colors and absolutely love my mission gold pains for that reason. But lately, I've been wanting to get some flow from my watercolors.

You’re so thorough thank you. Honest appraisal- so many videos I’ve seen ( nearly ALL) are just people putting them in the box, swatching and that’s about it. Love your charts. I did a huge one, roger regretted it, but it’s such a useful tool . Thank you for such Balanced views.

open stock is available on jackson's art and on blick (i think)! they're not as affordable, but they're there.

yes I did see that but certain colors are not open stock like the cobalt green deep (pb36) and the quinacridones

awesome review, thank you so much. lovely artwork too! would you happen to know how much the cobalt blue No.2 and cobalt green deep granulate? they don't seem like they granulate at all on your swatch cards?
@mayflea91213 жыл бұрын
By itself, they both have a softer more fine granulation than ultramarine but it’s definitely there. The more water in your mix, the less granulation you’ll see so it depends on the amount of pigment and water you use.

What kind of journals do you use? Are they watercolor paper? Paper looks thin but colors look great :)
