Mika Häkkinen drives the McLaren Solus GT at the Goodwood Festival of Speed

Two-time McLaren Formula 1 World Champion Mika Häkkinen experienced the epic McLaren Solus GT at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Häkkinen, who won two World Drivers’ Championships with McLaren in 1998 and 1999 - and was part of the 1998 World Constructors’ Championship winning team - is an icon of Formula 1’s V10 era. The single-seater Solus GT, with its dramatic V10 engine and 10,000rpm redline, is evocative of this period in the sport’s history.
And the Solus GT driven by Mika is especially mesmerising. One of 25 customer cars that will be built, it has been hand painted by McLaren Special Operations to match the livery of his 1998 championship winning McLaren MP4/13 Formula 1 car, the colours expertly matched and applied.

I thought Triple F Collection Solus GT has a nice 'livery' to it but this is next level. Brings back that late 90's vibes from McLaren Mercedes era. Definitely much more character to it.

That is a killer spec! West Mclaren Merc colors and the splashes of rocket red, with Mika’s logo. Just Amazing, pure nostalgia from that era. My favorite Solus spec.

This track is really narrow, you can mess up easily, the guy driving the Lotus EVIJA crashed doing a burnout just meters from the start. Mika does not want to look like a fool. This car production is limited to just 25 units, all sold out, I guess the owner of the car does not want it to be damaged or abused.

This is a nice single seater car. You can see how it is very purposeful, just like a Formula 1 car, but with special features and covered wheels. I like that is it way shorter than the Valkyrie and the new Redbull/Adrian Newey RB17 it also has a 5.4 liter modified Judd V10 with a nice sound and no electric motor aid. Nice indeed.

Formula One had to make a decision to consciously not emphasize the engine until the bodywork could catch up. This season it is common to have one second difference between the top fifteen qualifiers. Once the engine ban gets lifted, we will see much better things than if we had no engine freeze this entire time.
