Great video! Been a Lambda student for about nine months and every word of this is true, especially the part where people fall behind. We have about 25% of our cohort left and I think most dropped because they couldn't keep up and/or they were comparing themselves to others.

@@MikaelAbehsera It's been tough. Learned more than I thought possible in this amount of time. If I wasn't spending 20-30 hours a week outside of class studying I probably would have flexed out myself.

I'm surprised people with CS degrees thought it was a joke. I mean sure they develop good problem solving skills and what not to help them, but most of them don't do much coding at all. The ones who do are doing it on their own, but usually even in your whole degree you've done maybe one course in programming that's also teaching outdated things. Ultimately I still wish a had a cs for the fact that it's way easier to get an interview.

degree's teach theoretical things that a lot of people make mistakes on when they go solo, but the cost to learn those things are too much, and just not worth it. Also college isn't the only place to get knowledge from now, we have the internet in our pockets so anyone can go and learn those things.

did a software engineering 4 year degree and believe it or not i came out with mostly theory knowledge and barely any coding knowledge hate myself for it and wish i never wasted my time and money. I wish i did a bootcamp instead. I did manage to secure a well paying IT job but definitely wanna go back to developing.

Can definitely relate. Went to some uni prep summer science course and if you're sick and stay home one day it's gonna be 3 chapters of math, one of physics and one of chemistry later and you don't have enough time in your day to catch up. 9% passrate.
@MikaelAbehsera

seems super weird tho right? all the promises and the cost you'd think theyd help more then make a program that sets you up for failure

@@MikaelAbehsera I suppose it sucks for the taxpayers actually paying for it over here (Norway). I guess it's pretty hard to know if you can do it or not before the course without actually just going through everything first.

Great vid! Do you know what the pass rate is for the Data Science stream and the Web Dev stream? I just applied for the Data Science stream - my background is in Mech Engineering so I decided to go with DS over Web Dev. Thanks!
@MikaelAbehsera
@MikaelAbehsera 4 жыл бұрын
No clue, about the pass rates, what I would recommend is to watch out for statistics from these guys since they usually find a way to make them seem better then they are. Like saying 90% bootcamp grads get tech jobs, not telling you that customer support jobs count, vs strictly software engineer jobs .

Is it much more difficult to do this bootcamp purely online as opposed to in person? And do you know the refund policy for Alberta?
@MikaelAbehsera
@MikaelAbehsera 3 жыл бұрын
Its just not worth it online, you could get more out of a free group on discord of people helping each other out, its also super expensive now, would not recommend! and no Idk the refund policy but usually you get x amount of days before you can get out and get some money back (or all) I'd make sure to talk to them before giving a dollar, if you do choose it

@@MikaelAbehsera Lighthouse labs right now is completely online. Do you really think self-studying will be equivalent to Lighthouse Labs in terms of getting a career and job? I heard it's extremely difficult, or near impossible
@victoriaa634
@victoriaa634 3 жыл бұрын
@@MultiSkyrise Yes, i'm currently doing the bootcamp online and I learned better self teaching. It's a money grab. they barely teach you the concepts. You'll be a more proficient coder by buying a $20 udemy course.

So I'm in my third year of comp sci, I'm doing the data science stream of lighthouse labs in the second cohort this fall. I have fallen behind by more than a full day now because I had technology problems on monday and compass wasn't working online to request help from mentors (the bootcamp is online bc of covid). Tuesday I had other technology problems with numpy and my venv and I spent much of wednesday trying to catch up when in the evening I realized that I was just keeping up but not catching up. I got really discouraged and just stopped bc I felt burnt out with the loss of moral. Do you have any suggestions? Do they still give you access to compass if you drop out but have paid tuition in full?
