The you have to love Japan really also applies to moving to other places. I moved to the U.S. so I understand all the hard effort you have to put into learning a new language and adapting to a different environment. If you feel eh about it, its truly not worth it when you are already used to another place. Moving to other countries is extremely hard, especially when cultures and languages are very different. Human beings can vary a lot surprisingly depending on the culture as a whole.
@echoindigo44366 жыл бұрын
I definitely want to go back and live in Japan again. I have the added benefit that I did it once before in Jr. Highschool...and I know for a fact I do like living there. Maybe it is easier to make friends when you are a kid in school though. I remember that my class got really excited when I came as an exchange student and I stayed an extra year because it was offered to me and I was having so much fun I didn't want to leave! I even got to participate in student council activities. So if you are in school definitely go.

I haven't been to Japan but I'm planning to. I've been to Korea and I noticed that your tips are good for there too. I didn't get groped in the subway but I got kissed in a subway station against my will by a Korean who boasted about it to his friends shortly after. I heard it's sadly a thing that occurs a lot more than I had thought. Except for that incident I felt very safe in Seoul, even safer than back home. But we should be careful wherever we go. And don't shy away from calling the person out.

Just a note that Shinsei Bank won't work for everyone now, as they changed their policy. As with most other banks in Japan, they now require proof of six months of residency _or_ some form of indication (only through a full-time employer) that you will be in Japan for at least a year (in case you do not meet the six-months criteria). This works for people who are coming to Japan for full-time work, but it will not work for people on WHV, student visa, etc. Also, this excludes residents on a spouse visa or other people who are here for special reasons (none of the residency requirements apply), so best to check Shinsei's site for those specific cases.

I don't know if it's the same for other countries but if you bring electrical appliances from the UK such as hair straightener it won't work as Japan has lower electricity frequency. I wish I knew that as I would have just bought a travel straightener at Donky the first day, rather than trying different plugs and looking scruffy! :P

I love Kawaii, I am obsessed with technology, I love to see all of their interesting ways for solving common problems, I have been teaching myself Japanese slowly since high school... and I do mean slowly 🤣 I can learn words here and there, my biggest issue is proper placement of the different parts of sentences in other languages (eg where does this adjective go in relationship to THAT noun and does the verb come before or after the noun). After learning English it's difficult to see sentences any other way lol.
