Mike and Jay are back for another Mike and Jay Talk About video where Mike and Jay talk about the movie Dinner in America, a punk rock coming of age suburbia dystopian love story. This is an addendum to our Half in the Bag Kyle Gallner triple feature extravaganza!

Addicts will not only chew pills but crush and snort them as well. Chewing the pill will cause it to dissolve faster and work quicker, especially if it's a timed release type pill. Good to see Mike is clearly not an addict and does not hang a round addicts.

You don't really chew them. I can go into this very deep. Time release/ extended release pills aren't always beaten by chewing them. For example the OP80s which are extended release oxycodone 80mgs. Chewing them does nothing. They are like chewing gum. The time release is not based on a coating it's the material itself.

It's funny that Jay and Mike act like "selling out" just means "making money", when they should know full well what it is. Selling out is when you compromise your principles (or have no principles) in order to make money. The Nerd Crew is a parody of sellouts. Not selling out is putting up a video talking about a Kyle Gallner film for 30 minutes because you love it.

Also it’s one of the only examples probably ever of a love story involving someone who is likely “developmentally disabled”. It goes a long way in humanizing people many of us subconsciously write off a subhuman, and whether or not that was a goal of the creators, it’s a beautiful aspect of the movie.

@@Cornintheskydude the more time you spend around mentally unusual or handicap folks..... They are a fucking blast and you will laugh harder and have more fun as you grow more comfortable being around them. To claim they don't do and say anything funny is just an outright absurdity. They do and say some of the funniest shit I've ever seen happen on this earth. Sometimes on purpose sometimes by accident. The many I have got to know over the years and spent time around..... They feel the exact same way...... They don't want to be treated nicely, gently, or any different than you would treat anyone else. They want to be treated just like everybody else. If you're an asshole to most people in your day to day life, then be an asshole to them too. Because adjusting your behavior and attitude just because their brain is different from most folks..... They hate that shit. Everybody tiptoes around them and it's been like that their entire lives. They don't feel like they have genuine interactions with people. at least the ones that I've known and spent time around over the years......

2 things. 1, as a drug user myself, yes, people who do pills sometimes crush them up, not just to snort them, but to throw the powder in their mouth and down it as quick as possible. It makes the pill hit you faster, MUCH faster, but it doesnt last as long when done. Also, yes, it tastes like fucking shit and the aftertaste lingers (thus why I dont do it so much, breaking the pill in half does the same thing, for me at least, YMMV) and 2. I swear to fucking CHRIST this movie is based on one of my old friends, or an amalgamation of my old friends group. I have lived in michigan for 40 years, the main guy in this movie reminds me of at least two of my old "friends" (all of them eventually fucked me over in the end. Live and learn.). We were all the "punk" types (I was the goth man out, still am to this day), and at least two of my old crew not only LOOKED EXACTLY LIKE this guy, but acted like him as well (without the whole "meet the girl, she tempers the anger" portion of it. That was actually ME, and again, sadly, it didnt work out in the long run...), right down to the fighting with everyone, burning shit down (thankfully I never got involved in THAT side of shit), selling/doing COPIOUS amounts of drugs, and being in multiple shit little bands and watching other shit little bands get big without them (taproot, bloodlined calligraphy and the black dahlia murder, specifically). Only difference is, my friends were a LOT more "punk looking" than this guy. Meaning way more tattoos/piercings and WAY more outlandish outfits. This movie looks like it IS my early twenties. Makes me wonder if the director was a hanger on in our old friends group who eventually wrote what he knew and experienced first hand....

Thank you so much for reviewing this video. I’m autistic and found myself relating so strongly to Patty, I’m convinced she was coded autistic intentionally. My husband also related to the main character, saying that both characters are like ultimate exaggerations of what we both felt we were like as teenagers, before we met. The particular scene in the truck towards the end of the film made me sob, it felt so raw and genuine. This film is now one of my absolute favorites (we keep saying “take it down a notch” to each other) and I’m so flipping grateful we could discover it through your recommendation.

Rich uncovers them and wheels them out of the closet..... Pulls tattered tarp off, and flips the remote startup switch. And they spring to life..... Always pleasantly surprised he hasn't yet dismantled them and scattered their bits around the studio. But I try to keep a positive outlook. There's still time so i know Rich will pull through.... and score a point for humankind.
