Hey there, Mike. I used to live on the Monterey Peninsula and I occasionally took in your gigs at East Village Coffeehouse (previously called Morgan's). I expatriated the MP in 2012 and my lady and I bought a spread up here in Modoc County. We occasionally take California 299 to the Northwestern border of Nevada where the pavement ends and Nevada State highway 8 begins. It's a dirt "highway" that traverses northern Nevada all the way to Elko. Wild country. If you've never been to Modoc County you are missing the only and last refuge in all of California for real folk.

I remember laying out silverware at the end of a shift (at Big Sky) and hearing for the first time “Hickory Wind” and “Pancho and Lefty”. The snow was falling outside and it was so beautiful. (I think there was a guy from Nashville (Kenny) and the piano player who married Krista. In that first band, I can’t remember the name of the band though)

The chord progression is identical to a song I heard a few years ago by Logan Halstead called dark black coal. It is so difficult in folk music these days to write a song that isn't similar to someone else's, if not impossible.
