Happy to have produced this vidja with our friend Chris Acker ( @chrisacker_growthsprout ). I feel he is best suited to explain in words what this song is about. Love ya brother!
“This song is about the ways the love you share with someone can take different forms. Lovers to friends, friends to lovers, to hold someone dear to you forever.
Nick is a neighborhood staple I met outside of Fradys one day when we got to talking about Tammy Wynette after he was done clowning on the good old boys. Not long after we met Nick started having Joe, an old lover and lifelong friend, live with him. Joe was sick and Nick had all these people in the neighborhood helping out with meals and everything until Joe passed away. It was a really beautiful thing and made for my favorite love story. Most of what is said here I heard from nick, some of it I took creative license on, but it got the stamp of approval a few days ago. Thank god, would have had to burn a lot of vinyl. Enjoy and thanks for watching! This song will be on Odd Ordinary and Otherwise!
Thanks to @neckshoulders for the message in a bottle from last weeks vid that had me feeling like a song was coming on. you know right after I played this for nick (from the song) he wiped the tears from his eyes, said thank you, then a pause and then “so how’s lil Nicky shoulders?” Lol”

Another thing I love about WAF is how when I click on a video I don't know if it is going to be about doing too many drugs in a punk house, heartache, someone you used to love calling, wishing away your youth, Johnny Cash visiting your dad on his deathbed or the bond between an interior designer and his former lover...I just know that it is going to be good.

Chris is the only man alive I'd trust with writing such a phenomenal song about such an interesting story. Rest in peace Joe, and all good will towards Nick 🙏 You need a strong back to carry the heft of this song!

So often we forget that folk and country is rooted in rebellion and defiance, we have lost sight of what it’s about. Fighting for the little man and the oppressed.

My favorite part about music is "hearing" a song first, liking it, then really "listening" to it.

I didn't like Chris at first, but he really grew for me song after song. Now one of my favourite storytellers for sure! Lyrics and chords below as always folks! Hope I got everything right. Chords are for verse 1 and 3, verse 2 is slightly different, for the exact timings, head over to Ultimate Guitar, should be up there the next hours Standard tuning, no Capo Intro A D E A D A E Verses A D / E A / A D / E A A7 / D A / A E / A D / E A D A E Interlude A D E A D A E [Intro] [Verse 1] Shotguns with tin roofs, the air sits more than it moves Newspaper hits the front door, Nick, he wakes in the front room He's packed his Mitsubishi with the itchy upholstery He's going to Austin to his sister's, she's got an open room For the way his ass wanders won't make wives of your daughters Pensacola 1978 It was over a bag of Lebanese hash That Nick met Joe, went back to his house laid down for a smoke [Verse 2] Nick was just 20 and Joe was near 40 But the first man to hold Nick without secrecy They'd go to Hippie Hollow and fuck on Joe's sailboat Go round in his limo, Nick insisted he drove In purple pants and high heels, Nick wrote hot checks and closed deals Joe designed the insides of Austin's fine homes Ah but love is a migrant, it's movement is constant With Nick, and Joe's wouldn't stay He said "Baby, I'm just the first one in your life full of good love And sove for some hurt what's our consequence to pay Time never went wasted, stood still in some places And when it heals you, a friend I'll remain" [Interlude] [Verse 3] Shotgun with shingled roofs, the air sits more than it moves Nick sits on his corner in New Orleans, he's just turned 60 A call on the homephone, the voice of Joe Saying "Nicky, my liver, it's not gonna hold So Nick makes up the guest bed and hires a house chef Says "Joe, you won't be going in any old home" And late one spring evening, two lovers lay sleeping Down the hall from each other, they listen to each other breathing

Love this beautiful song and story Chris. It just stinks that you and all the folks who came to enjoy it gotta put up with these fake Cowboys in the comments and their platitudes. In the words of Willie Nelson, the other great Willie, “Cowboys are frequently secretly fond of each other” and I think some of y’all aught to come to terms with that.

Gay people exist in country music. This is a human story. If all you see it as is a gay story, you're missing the point of country music. It's "3 chords and the truth" not "3 chords and don't mention that one difficult thing."
@Bowhuntertexas
@Bowhuntertexas 3 жыл бұрын
@@Willi-Carlisle it’s not a difficult thing. It’s a thing that 3.5% of America identifies as. And of those identifying, 46% claim to have been sexually abused as children. Hardly a thing to be proud of and hardly a thing to glorify in a song. It’s extremely sad and the suicide rate among gay and trans is astronomical, and that has nothing to do with acceptance. The acceptance for gays and trans is higher than its ever been in history and it’s done nothing to the suicide rate. Glorifying this and celebrating it is doing nothing for gays. It’s continuing to kill them. Wake up and stop participating in woke culture. Love and acceptance have been confused as synonymous in today’s world. But they are complete opposites. Love is wanting what’s best for another human being even if it causes temporary discomfort. Hope you understand I’m not being judgmental. A lifestyle and illness that has the highest suicide rate should not be promoted. Just my two cents. God bless.
@mirandag.3277
@mirandag.3277 3 жыл бұрын
@@Bowhuntertexas have you ever thought that the suicide rate among gay and trans people is because of people being hateful towards them like you are? i mean how you ever thought about one of the groups in this country with the highest murder rates is black trans women. or how much of the teen homeless population are lgbt because they've been kicked out of their homes by their parents for being lgbt. ever thought about how being gay is still illegal and punishable by death in many countries? maybe, just maybe, if there were a little less hate by homophobes like you, people like me wouldnt have high suicide rates. just my two cents. god bless
@Bowhuntertexas
@Bowhuntertexas 3 жыл бұрын
@@zachbrysonofficial 23% of America is not gay my friend. I’m not sure where you got that information, but it is false. It’s not even close to that. As for your comments regarding God, I’ll leave you with a few verses. 1. Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 2. If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 3. Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. These are just a few to ponder regarding your statements about gods view on homosexuality, the emptiness of hell, and true Christianity, which is abiding by god’s commandments. Now granted, we all fall short of keeping his commandments as we are all sinners. But we should never glorify or celebrate sin. That is the issue most Christians have with homosexuality. It is now glorified and celebrated, which should hurt any Christians outlook on the nation. No sin should be celebrated or accepted. Doesn’t mean you still don’t love the person, but we have to be advocates for God commandments as true disciples.
