I had a standpartner who used his middle finger to pizz. I think he may have just been subconsciously flpping me the bird, though. Can't hurt to practice both, though. Hypothetically alternating fingers is the best technique, assuming there is no difference in sound between plucking with your middle finger and with your index finger.

You can play any way that is suitable with a justifiable in technique with good reasons backing it.

On an upright, I usually pluck with both fingers for each note (1st & 2nd or sometimes 2nd & 3rd) to get a thicker sound. Is it applicable to cello as well?

thanks for this. I always play pizz with my second finger rather than the index finger but I always see people using there index finger and I feel like I'm doing it wrong. Is it ok if use my second finger primarily or is this a bad practice?
