I agree with Mike D about Eminem. Eminem was marketed in a pop space. Therefore he went through a pop channel. Why do you think his content was more than noticeably different versus the Nas's or the DMXs of the game. See, once you go mainstream that's what the masses are going to remember. We know Eminem was on the underground. This helped him in more ways than one. Yet , once you go in that pop space, you don't get to complain about how you're placed in hip-hop on how you don't get your props like how Em did on Til I Collapse. You don't get to circumvent the counterparts you claim to be among like the NAS, DMX, Jay-Z and the Wu-Tangs. The higher-ups gave Eminem a loop hole and he took it.

Eminem is one of the most skillful emcees of all time. That being said, Eminem doesn't try to rap in time with the beat. Rap is rhythm and poetry. Eminem tries to scream over the beat. He overpowers the beat. He tries to fit a million words into the song and rap as fast as possible. Hip hop is a mesh between the voice and the instrumental. Eminem had such a smooth flow when he first cam out. It doesn't make for great songs but his skills shine in freestyles. I feel Mike. I'll be real, I was an Em fan boy but as I've gotten older, the content lost appeal to me as well.
