I have no words for how overwhelming this is. I have played guitar since 2001, and it is my primary emotional outlet. I have been suffering from fingertip dermatitis for the past year, which has prevented me from playing guitar during that time, despite my best efforts to address the causes of my dermatitis. I'm home sick for the past 4 days, and this just dropped. I clicked on it as soon as i saw it, and about 45 seconds to a minute in, right as that OC-5 kicks in, and there's a flash of a smile in the left corner of your mouth, a tidal wave of emotion blindsided me and i sobbed like an infant for the rest of the song. i felt fear, desperation, anger, frustration, and profound sadness, but buried deep in there, holding the whole mess together, Hope. I don't know if i've ever cried like that in my life. I've only listened to the song once, and i need to calm myself down before i listen again. I've had to pause several times to gather myself even as i write this comment. I am compelled to share my deepest gratitude for sharing this song. you have helped unlock a measure of the emotions i've been holding in over the past year. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU. I wish i could express to you the way i feel right now. This comment is a feeble attempt, but i want you to know that you have gifted me a puzzle piece on my road to recovery. Again, thank you.

Hey I hope it is ok I respond❤ I play guitar since mid 90s and intensely since I am 16, I am 39 now. The last 3 years have been hardest of my life cause for an auto immune/neurological disease, I cant play the extend I used to have. But at least I am able to play on better days if. I am beyond grateful for it, to still do it, even if its hard not play that much or practice on a regular basis. I feel ur comment, and its really hard and frustrating to not be able to play guitar😢. Mike is a pure genius and his music is truly a gift, not only but especially in hard times. All the best to you. And improving health. Cheers from Germany

I often feel a depth of emotion words can't express when I listen to acoustic like this, that was a beautiful attempt to quantify something that can't be put in a box. I hope your fingers heal buddy, God bless.
@dank4544 ай бұрын
I'll never forget the day I played guitar again (without pain) years after I lost my middle and ring finger tips of my left hand. I thought the injury itself would never heal, and when it had healed - then came the doubt that the scar tissue would ever be less sensitive to handle the metal strings and build calluses - it stung like fuck. I'm writing this to you sir because I also cried like I haven't in years when I listened to this song, and for all the same reasons as yourself, although I wish I had 'hope' sooner and not doubted the recovery process. I know I would've healed faster with more optimistic eyes! If I had hope I would have used the opportunity to buy a keyboard & some good headphones, and start learning musical theory from a different instrument (it is much easier) and expressing myself in a new way. Translate some of my pieces to piano, learn songs, etc. I now enjoy piano so much I couldn't imagine it not being in my life - everything happens for a reason! I have always loved Mike Dawes and a new release like this is a true blessing.

This tune strikes me as very Hedges-esque, but it's so much more. You truly took the legacy of fingerstyle guitar, but instead of just copying you build upon it your own story, expressed not only with technical finesse, but first and foremost with feeling, groove, musicality, tenderness and incredible taste. That's what acoustic fingerstyle guitar is about. Kudos, you're amazing, and this is and instant classic, as well as one of my new favorite songs. Thank you!
