Saw them LIVE last night in Boston.......IT. WAS. FUCKING. AMAZING! They were SO tight. I closed my eyes for a min and thought it was the album. They were laughing, joking, smiling together and Mike must've introduced each band member like 5 times during the show, especially Sebastian who he REALLY was showing a lot of praise and love for. It was such a feel good show where everyone was dancing and having a great time TOGETHER. Thank you to therapy, recovery, humility, maturity, forgiveness and a long fucking time in between, that brought these guys back to the stage and into our lives.

Great show, right? The energy in the crowd was super positive, too.

Several years after this he actually contacted the other members about reforming Soul Coughing. From interviews on podcasts he says he gets on pretty well with Sebastian but not the other two, though he usually is pretty vague when talking about what went down.

I'd say that it's the way he thinks he was treated that eats at him. I' d say that once he got over that, he would probably see how the royalties should be equal. I mean - I LOVED SC; I remember the first time I heard them, and yes - I loved the vocals, the poetry immediately stood out, and the phrasing, but just as much I jumped on that AMAZING rhythm section (unmatched in rock), and more than anything their secret weapon, the key-man, the sample dude.

I love Soul Coughing and it kills me that Mike has such distaste for his own work BUT, having been in the biz I know the music that I personally don't care to perform is usually the ones the public seems to gravitate towards. It's a really weird thing. Thanks for the upload!

yeah it sucks that they all hated each other, soul coughing is some of the catchiest but still weird-type music ever

I can totally sympathize. He's clean, he's moved on with music. Some day he'll be able to move on emotionally. As for his music now, I like it. Soul Coughing was good, but all these folks wanting to go backward bore me. Soul Coughing put out their discs, go listen to them if that's what you want to do.

What was so bad about his time in Soul Coughing? I'd say it's his ego that gets in the way. Maybe they made more money in their contract or something ...I don't know. All I know is Soul Coughing was one band in the 90's that stood out to me. I like Mikes new stuff too but would like to see him branch out in new directions like he did back then.

I don't know. I know people who have met him at the meet and greet things and he was very short and acted like he had no interest in being there. I'd go out on a limb and say it's his personality over the bands that caused the downfall

I met him briefly at a show. He didn't take compliments well. Yeah. Dickish. He survived. And like he said, he's paying his rent now. He may look back and feel differently 20 years from now. Who knows!
@chibisven12 жыл бұрын
seriously, I understand what he means about not playing with people you can't stay with. Seriously, once the love is sucked out of the music it dies. I've been in those situations and at some point you need to move on. and yeah, his new stuff lacks that clever jazz edge but it's really great in a different way.

According to Doughty, the rest of the band treated him like shit and took credit for songs he wrote.

You do know that those “soul coughing songs” were written by him, right? 😂

@@sw9979 I am aware. Take my comment in context -- the video is of him commenting about not playing Soul Coughing songs and yet, at the time, if I remember correctly, he had a tour announcement about playing Soul Coughing - I was just saying, that's all... that and it was 10 years ago.
@sw99799 ай бұрын
@dw235 true but he did contact the guys about having a tour for the anniversary for ruby vroom, what he said in a recent interview, but they all weren’t interested. So, he went on about it for the fans sake and done it himself. Which was fair.

@5:05 Exactly why I won't give Queens of the Stone Age another shot. Saw them live with NIN and even accounting for how bored they always sound because that is somehow cool, they reeeeally sounded like they didn't care and didn't want to be there. Their audio also sounded like they were trying to play for a good sized club despite this being an arena. If a band doesn't care... neither do I.
@robdavidson18765 жыл бұрын
I don't care who loves or doesn't love Soul Coughing I liked the Ruby Vroom cd...so what he didn't like it or had problems or the band did or whatever Ruby Vroom was fun stuff something different. ..a nice change. ..even can hate it who cares..he doesn't have to play it or like it...it's what the PEOPLE chose to like that matters ...is his work liked better?I dunno...Haven't listened yet ...but Soul Coughing worked and some or many may prefer it to bad...from what I hear him doing here doesn't really appeal to me Ruby Vroom still does!

I didn't know the extent...SC is why ppl want to hear you, and when I listen to this song, I wonder where that killer bass/drum line that floats his beautiful fucked up vocals is...poor bastard, to bad he connects his drug-days with his music in that time, but he's right about doing what you love, and doing what others expect, and besides, even bad music is good music, if your intelligent enough to hear it without shallow judgements. If you, the reader here, can do better I suggest u try....
